I love Gothic fiction! I took several courses on the genre at uni and wrote a blog post about it in the early days of this blog. But then someone suggested I make a video about it too after seeing quite some Gothic fiction on my shelves in my bookcase tour. And since I like it when people request certain video’s or blog posts, I figured I could do one! So that’s what today’s video is about.
A guide to Gothic fiction
Gothic fiction as a genre has been one of my favorites for years and I still love it. Even though I’m getting more into fantasy and sci-fi these days too, Gothic fiction still holds a special place in my heart. Making this video was quite challenging as I wanted it to be as informative as it could be, but not too overwhelming either. It was difficult to be concise! Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy this week’s video: a little different again than my usual beauty and fashion mojo.
What genre do you prefer to read?

I prefer fantasy, but gothic fiction is a great genre too! 🙂
I’ve been getting into fantasy more these past few years. Mostly YA though. Still have to bite the high fantasy bullet.
Very interesting!
I haven’t read much classic gothic literature since school, but I can see how it inspires a lot of the new psychological thriller style fiction I currently read.
[…] surprise. I just recently did a guide to Gothic fiction, so you knew this would be coming. While not the most recent genre that I’m digging, this has […]
I would recommend The Monk by Matthew Lewis. It’s as shocking today as it was back in the late 18th century. But one of the best graphic novels I have ever read has been The Phantom Ship by Frederick Marryat. Also, since you love gothic, if you wish I would love your feedback on a gothic short story I wrote. https://anauthorstravails.wordpress.com/2018/01/06/lady-in-black-short-story/
I have heard loads about The Monk! Will have to seek it out. I would also like to read some Anne Radcliffe.
I tried Radcliffe. I was sorely let down. But maybe you won’t feel the same way.
