My not so new ‘new’ bag

Remember yesterday’s wish list post? Well I can already scratch one item from that list, without spending a single dime. I have been pining for a nice sturdy, big enough, brown bag for literally years. However, none of the bags I ever found came close to what I was looking for. Until I was browsing Ebay a few weeks ago and found this gem:

Isn’t she purdy? At the same time I’ve been browsing some blogs and vlogs on thrifting lately. I just don’t have the time to really go to all these thrift stores. Plus, sometimes those people really just look like grandmas. However, I learnt today that sometimes you don’t have to look very far to find something vintage.

Take the bag in the picture above. It really is nothing but a tan messenger bag. All I want is something that looks like this. And then it hit me! I already HAVE something like this! Proof:

Well, if that isn’t a tan colored messenger bag! And it had been laying around the house for YEARS without me paying any attention to it. This is actually the first school bag I ever owned. I got it from my godfather for my 12th birthday. So I’ve had it for almost 15 years now! I actually have another one, very much like it, which is bigger, but also a bit more beat up: a zipper is broken and some of the stitching has come loose. However, I’m sure that if I take it to my cobbler to get it fixed, it will be done within no time. I have two of these bags, as the one shown in the picture above wasn’t big enough to carry around all of the stuff I needed at school. That is why my mom bought me the bigger one a year later.

Best part of all: this smaller one is big enough to fit all of the stuff I take with me to work! Look at this:

It fits my laptop, papers/exams/articles, a bottle of water, my tea canister, lunch box, agenda, wallet, MP3 player, pens, phone, and more! I just packed it all in there to see if it would fit.

You can guess my excitement when I discovered this! So here is me taking my wishlist…

… and scratching it from that list.

Now all I need is that pair of tan brogues…

Q: What item have you rediscovered lately?

  1. I did the same thing once when I started my PhD and wanted to take my laptop everywhere: I used my old school bag!! So yay 🙂
(But still, that velvety look and honey color of the other bag is pretty 😉 )
