My favorite food: sushi

I love to eat. I love food. I love cooking and I’ve written several posts about different quick and easy meals I’ve made, but I’ve never talked about my favorite foods. Since I like food so much, it’s very easy for me to have a favorite food. I’m willing to try everything and there are generally very few foods I dislike. It is through one of those “let’s try some new food” experiences that I encountered one of my food loves: sushi.

my first and so far only attempt at making sushi

First there’s sushi. I have a love for fish in general. In restaurants I tend to opt for fish or vegetarian dishes to begin with, but when I was introduced to sushi I was blown away. I love how sushi is pretty much bite sized while sufficing as a meal on its own. My first encounter with sushi was in Paris, where I tried not only standard maki rolls such as California rolls or spicy tuna. No, I also tried the house specialty: a maki roll wrapped in Salmon and…. cream cheese in the middle. OMG! It’s the best thing ever. I also tried their nutella/ sweetened egg sushi for dessert and that was good too.

That wasn’t the best sushi I’ve ever had though. The best sushi I ever had was in Las Vegas in 2008. It was this place that was a little out of the way, as the site it was on was being reconstructed when I was there. I ordered some sushi with mango & avocado as well as some great rolls but I’ve forgotten by now what they were called. It was super fresh and tasted delicious. I happened to have taken pictures:

Sushi tastes best when the fish and all ingredients are as fresh as possible and it is fairly easy to make. Especially when you have some tools that help you to make it. I was given such a handy tool by my brother for my birthday and that’s when I made the sushi in the first picture. All you need is super fresh ingredients and some patience while the rice is cooling down and then you’re good to go. Unfortunately, it’s been a while since I last made sushi. I should do it again some time. Anyone interested in having a sushi party at my place?

Q: Do you like sushi? If yes, what’s you’re favorite? If no, would you be willing to try it?
