Every 2-3 months I will fall in love with one particular artist and I will rave about that band/ musician/ whatever until I find something new. Raves of the past year have been I Blame Coco, Warpain, Pete & the Pirates, Bobby Long and now there’s James Vincent McMorrow. Quite a mouth full, but some of the best music I’ve heard in a while.
James Vincent McMorrow is an Irish singer/songwriter who wrote his debut album Early in the Morning in a beach house on the Irish coast to get over his heartache after breaking up with his girlfriend. His music sounds like what would happen if Bon Iver and Sufjan Stevens had a baby. What you get are folky singer/ songwriter songs with a hint of pop. It makes for some easy listening, yet very pretty songs that are timeless and touching at the same time.
Don’t believe me? Listen to it for yourself here:
^^ That song is If I Had a Boat, which is the first song I heard. This made me get his album and I have been listening to it quite a bit. My favorite song is And If My Heart Should Somehow Stop:
Other songs that are worth a listen:
Sparrow and the Wolf
Down the Burning Rope
I just love listening to this. It literally takes me to another world. Do you like this sort of music?
