My DVD Collection

It’s November! Can you believe it? Only two more months and the year will be over. And not only that, but with November comes some dark and dreary days. Winter Time is now in full effect and days are only getting shorter. The perfect time of year to snuggle up on the couch with some hot cocoa (or a glass of wine) and a good movie. That’s exactly my plan. At the beginning of fall I usually sort through my DVD collection. Looking for things I haven’t seen yet, or selecting my favorites to rewatch them. Over the years I have gathered quite a few DVDs, despite the fact that I’m not the biggest movie buff. I don’t tend to buy as many movies right now (only when I see them in the cinemas and like them), but I certainly enjoy watching a host of things. So beware this picture heavy post as I will show you my DVD collection.

Let me know in a comment below which movies are your favorites and are still missing from my collection! I don’t do horror though, so don’t suggest anything scary or gory. 😉 Of course, if you would like more details on a specific movie, what it is about, why I have it, or how much I like it, go ahead and ask it in a comment as well.

Disclaimer: please note, that I have been buying DVDs for 10 years. I didn’t gather this many dvds in one go.

Twilight Saga & Harry Potter (2 Disc Deluxe Editions)

I know, I have Twilight twice. Only because the Dutch version doesn’t include English subtitles. I hate Dutch subtitles so I repurchased it via Amazon and have been buying all the movies there ever since.

Action movies part 1: 21, 300, Alice in Wonderland, Blade Trilogy, Blade Runner, Constantine, The Dark Knight, Donnie Brasco, The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

I love me some action movies! Fast cars, people shooting up the place, great stunts and special effects: I’m all for it. Apart from Disney movies I think I have the most movies in this category.

Action movies part 2: Fight club, From Dusk till Dawn, Gangs of New York, Layer Cake, Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Gone in 60 Seconds, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Frankenstein, Van Helsing, Dracula, Interview with the Vampire, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill

Action movies part 3: Kill Bill 2, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Matrix, Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Thirteen, Perfume, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl/ Dead Man’s Chest/ At World’s End, Pulp Fiction, Push, Reservoir Dogs, Rock N Rolla.

Action movies part 4: Sherlock Holmes, Sin City, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Smokin’ Aces, Underworld, The Usual Suspects, V for Vendetta, Wanted, Watchmen, X-men Origins: Wolverine, X-men, X-men 2, X-men Last Stand.

Comedy movies: Analyze This, Anger Management, Bridget Jones’ Diary, The Devil Wears Prada, Forrest Gump, Get Shorty, Legally Blonde, Mr & Mrs Smith, Shakespeare in Love, Music and Lyrics, The Neverending Story, Night at the Museum, Corpse Bride, The Nightmare before Christmas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I don’t have too many comedy movies and there are some movies in this stack that simply cannot be called comedy to begin with, but which I didn’t know which category to put in. Most of the time I don’t find comedy movies all that funny. There is one movie absent from my collection though, that I would still like to get: Tropic Thunder. That I thought was hilarious.

Drama movies part 1: 500 Days of Summer, A Beautiful Mind, A Clockwork Orange, Le Fabuleux Destin D’Amelie Poulain, Animal Kingdom, Babel, The Big Lebowski, Billy Elliot, The Black Dahlia, Bowling for Columbine, Closer, Coco avant Chanel, Das Leben der Anderen, Finding Neverland, Fahrenheit 9/11, Little Miss Sunshine.

Well, drama you cannot really call this category, but it at least contains most of my independent movies, the more serious type if you wish. This part of the collection also houses foreign language movies and the only Dutch language movie I own.

Drama movies part 2: Memoirs of a Geisha, Frost/ Nixon, Lost in Translation, The Notebook, Into the Wild, The Motorcycle Diaries, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Pride and Prejudice, The Pursuit of Happiness, Remember Me, Romeo & Juliet, Thank You for Smoking, Un Prophète, Walk the Line, Water for Elephants, Zwartboek.

Musical/ Music/ Dance movies part 1: A Chorus Line, All that Jazz, Cabaret, Center Stage Turn it Up, Chicago, Coyote Ugly, Dirty Dancing, Dirty Dancing 2, Dream Girls, Flashdance, Footloose, Grease, Hairspray, High School Musical.

One of my most beloved parts of my DVD collection. Some of these movies go way back. Grease, Dirty Dancing and Sound of Music have been favorites since I was a kid and I still watch them occasionally. Granted most dance movies have the cheesiest story lines but that is made up for the great music and awesome dance moves. Movie I’d still like to add is Burlesque. Oh and of course Step Up 4 when it is released.

Musical/ dance/ music movies part 2: Honey, Moulin Rouge, Nine, Ray, Rent, Rize, Saturday Night Fever, The Sound of Music, Step Up, Step Up 2, Step Up 3, Stomp the Yard, Take the Lead, You Got Served

Animated movies: Asterix 6 DVD collection, Bee Movie, Flushed Away, Happy Feet, Ice Age, Ice Age 2, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, Monsters vs Aliens, Over the Hedge, Shark Tale, Shrek, Shrek 2, Shrek the Third, Despicable Me.

Now on to my second most beloved part of the collection: animated movies. I love me some animation. They’re usually pretty short, they’re funny and have some great story lines. In a way I’m still a kid, but these movies also work when you’re older as some of the jokes are lost on you when you’re younger.

Disney movies part 1: Snow White, Pinoccio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Ichabod and Mr Toad, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians, Sword in the Stone, Mary Poppins.

Ah Disney movies! The best of all animated movies! I apologize for some of the titles being illegible if you don’t understand Dutch, because some movies only have the Dutch title on them. I have listed the English ones below the picture though. I have gotten quite a few more since I posted my Disney DVD collection almost 2 years ago. I now have all the movies that I want to have. There’s still a few missing from the list, but I have no interest in those as they are ones I never watched as a kid or I simply have no use for. I haven’t seen Brave yet too, but I will purchase that when it comes out. Oh and the reason why I bought all of them in The Netherlands is because Disney DVDs come with so many language options over here. Always useful.

Disney movies part 2: The Jungle Book, Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, The Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of the Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan.

Disney movies part 3: Fantasia 2000, The Emperor’s New Groove, Atlantis, Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear, Chicken Little, The Wild, Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, The Princess and the Frog, Tangled.

Disney movies part 4: Enchanted, Complete Collection, Ducktales the Movie, Ducktales Series 1 & 2, Rescue Rangers Series 1, 2 & 3, Cars, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, A Bug’s Life, Monsters Inc., Pixar Short Films, Ratatouille, Toy Story, Up, Wall-E.

And this is the last part of the Disney movies, but these are all movies that aren’t part of the Disney Classics collection. So these are Pixar movies (including the Short Films), Rescue Rangers and the wonderfully charming Enchanted (with Patrick Dempsey and Amy Adams).

Television Series (Crime Scene Investigation): Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Season 4, Season 5, and some special editions: cross over episodes, Grave Danger, A Bullet Runs Through It, Built to Kill, The Blood Box.

My favorite television by far is Crime Scene Investigation. I haven’t bought all the seasons yet as I’m waiting for the series to wind down so I can buy a box set that has all the seasons in it. The same goes for any other TV series I watch. I’d much rather buy a box set with all season in it than storing all these separate boxes. And I don’t have that many other series as you can see below:

Television Series (miscellaneous): Sherlock (BBC) Series 1 and 2, A bit of Fry and Laurie, The Muppet Show, House Season 1.

Concert dvds: Justin Timberlake The Videos, Justin Timberlake Live, Justin Timberlake Future Sex Love Sound Live at Madison Square Garden, Christina Aguilera My Reflection, Christina Aguilera Out of the Bottle, Christina Aguilera Genie Gets her Wish, Christina Aguilera Stripped Live in the UK, Christina Aguilera Back to Basics Live and Down Under, Britney Spears Life from Las Vegas, Britney Spears In the Zone, Britney Spears Greatest Hits: My Perogative, Britney: For the Record.

Last but not least, these are my concert and music artist related DVDs. They are only on three artists: Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears. Some of these concerts I went to myself, but for some reason I don’t see that many concert DVDs out there anymore. Perhaps it costs too much money to make them?
