Caramel hot chocolate
Earlier this week I told you about my obsession with hot chocolate and this caramel hot chocolate inspired by the Starbucks drink in particular. Here’s how to make it from scratch, including the caramel sauce.
What you need:
– 3 dessert spoons of cocoa powder (you can add more or less depending on the size of your mug and your personal preference)
– milk
– caramel sauce (bought or homemade, I will give my recipe below)
– whipped cream (again: bought or homemade, instructions below)
– a spoon
– sauce pan
How to make it:
The hot chocolate is super easy to make once you have all the ingredients.
1.) Pour some milk in the cup you will be drinking from and then pour the milk into your pan. This way you will have enough milk.
2.) Heat the milk on medium to high heat. Keep an eye on this. If it starts to boil you will make a mess.
3.) Put some caramel sauce on the bottom of your mug.
4.) Put the cocoa powder in the mug.
5.) Once your milk is hot enough (test it with your pinky), add a little bit of milk and stir until the cocoa is dissolved and there are no chunks in the mixture.
6.) Add the rest of the milk.
7.) Top it up with two scoops of whipped cream and drizzle some caramel sauce on top.
DONE!
Caramel sauce
Now if your supermarket doesn’t stock caramel sauce, like mine, you can easily make it yourself. Here’s what you need to make the sauce:
– 100 grams of unsalted butter
– 100 ml of whipped cream
– 150 grams of light brown sugar
To make it you simply heat all the ingredients until they are all melted together. Bring to a boil and let cool. This will give you a very generous amount of caramel sauce!
Home made whipped cream
The whipped cream is easy too. Just buy a container of unwhipped cream and you can then add sugar or ‘klop-fix‘ (to make a firm cream). I used 250 ml and 1 serving of klopfix to make the whipped cream in the picture.
The end result should look something like this: a rich, creamy and incredibly satisfying caramel hot chocolate. Enjoy!
Excuse the mess in the background of these pictures. I took these in my kitchen and I still had some dishes to do.
