Update on me (March 2013)

I thought it would be time to write a more personal post again. The last time I wrote an update was in January when things weren’t going too well. I’m happy to announce that things are definitely better again. I’m sure you can tell by the amount and type of blogs that I’m posting. I’m finding it easier to blog again, am enjoying myself again and life is simply good right now.

I am suddenly finding myself with this new joust of energy. I notice it in everything: I read more, I feel more energetic and I am much more willing to go out and DO things. What things? Doesn’t matter. Right now I’m in for trying new things, meeting new people and well just going out there and doing something other than sitting at my desk writing blogs or watching youtube videos. I’m sure it’s because spring is finally on the brink of arrival here and days have slowly started to lengthen. I swear: winter is not my time of year!

Spring however has its downsides as well. We’ve literally had 2 days of sunshine when I’m writing this and already my hayfever symptoms have spiked. Luckily for me I’m seeing my allergy doctor soon so I’m sure I’ll be able to get some more meds to help me cope. So that will sort itself out. My March track record for hayfever syptoms isn’t the greatest but I’m sure I can toughen it out and hope for the best.

As for life in general: like I said, it’s great. Work is going great. I have unofficial word that my contract will be extended and I simply feel like this job is THE one for me right now. It’s odd. I really liked my previous job, but however hard I tried I never really got things done. My wishes weren’t heard, English was simply a thing students ‘had to do’ and I never reached my full potential. And I’m only just now starting to realize that. In the 7 months I’ve been at my current job I’ve achieved more than I did in 3 years at the other one. It’s like a glove that fits. I like my colleagues. I like my students. I like the courses I’m teaching. And what’s more: they seem to like me too. The only downside to my current job is the organization: communication and organization wise it isn’t the best, but I’ll happily deal with things the best way I can as all the other aspects of my job are so much more rewarding.

Uni wise everything is fine as well. I finally managed to hand in my final assignment, so now all I have to do is finish my thesis and I will be done. It did take me most of my spring break to do it, but hey, it’s all for a good cause. My thesis is also coming along nicely. I’m right on track planning wise and I hope to stay on that track for the time to come. I’m still in my data gathering phase, but since I’ve already read so much about my topic, that’s all that’s left to do before I can start writing it all down. I pretty much already have my theoretical framework ready to go. It just needs some alterations and an additional source or two, but then it’s just a matter of analyzing data and putting my thoughts onto paper. As much as I enjoy being in uni again, the strain of doing it next to job has gotten to me this final year so I can also tell you that I’m going to be glad when it’s over.

On a more personal note life is simply busy and a lot of fun. These next few weeks I’m going from dinners to birthdays, from meetings to museum visits and everything in between. And let’s not forget about gym and dance class, because that is also fun and social. No if anything I will definitely not be getting bored any time soon. This upcoming week I’m traveling to uni to discuss my thesis with my supervisor, am going to see my parents for my mom’s birthday and I’m sure something else will pop up in between (drinks with students, dinners with colleagues, you name it). And the weeks after this are going to be as crazy busy as well with Easter coming up, several other birthdays and a study trip from work in April I won’t be able to slow down on the social front any time soon :-). But that’s the way I like it.

I hope you liked that throw back to some old school Backstreet 😉 (My first BSB show was from this tour, gah the memories!). Take care and leave comment below with your plans for the upcoming few weeks.

  2. I feel ya on the allergies! The few warmer days here have been bleugh for me too.
So glad your loving your job it really does show!
Me? Well first of all, I think I might have to watch the Homecoming DVD again now! Hopefully this week, my money issues will be sorted and I’m buying my flights (finally)! More training for my race and I really need to get back to blogging!
