FOTD: Classic pin up look with a modern twist

Today’s face of the day (FOTD) is killing two birds with one stone. For one it shows you the make up look I’m wearing yesterday’s Jean Paul Gaultier inspired outfit post AND I’m showing you what the Rimmel BB cream looks like on my skin. I wrote about the Rimmel BB cream on Monday. You can read both posts by clicking here and here. I’d say this is a wearable, modern version of the classic 40s & 50s pin up look. It features a contoured eye, some eyeliner and of course a red lip. If you’re curious to see what products I used, then stay tuned.

What makes this version different from a standard classic pin up look, is that a) the shadows I used are brown and b) the eyeliner is grey. This makes the look much more subtle and less dramatic. In other words: wearable in every day life without looking like a caricature. It’s a very simple look, but the red lip adds that little bit of oompfh to up the anti.

Products used:

Face: Rimmel BB Cream in Light, Benefit Erase Paste in no. 1 Fair, MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Medium, Cover Girl blush in Rose Silk

Brows: MAC Omega eyeshadow, HEMA clear brow gel.

Eyes: Make Up Designory eyeshadows in honeysuckle, apricot and taupe, The Body Shop eyeshadow no. 13, Catrice felt tip eyeliner pen in Black Grey, Maybelline The Falsies Feather in black

Lips: Make Up Designory lipstick in Lady Bug

The eye look is very simple.

I used a matte white eyeshadow (The Body Shop no. 13) on my browbone to highlight it. I then ran a matte peachy color (MUD Apricot) all over my lid. Next, I took a matte medium brown (MUD Taupe) to deepen the crease and a soft yellow with minor reflects (MUD Honeysuckle) to highlight my inner tearduct area.

Instead of black I opted for a grey eyeliner to define the eye but not be too much in your face. There is no shadow, just a tad of mascara on my lower lash line.

I also love love this lipstick. I wore this on a work day and didn’t touch it up once and it simply stayed put. I put it on around 7.30 AM and until well after dinner the color had faded but was still very much there. It didn’t feather and I ate and drank throughout the day as usual. How awesome is that? I think I may have found a new favorite lipstick.

Enjoy your Friday! What are you up to this Easter weekend? I’ll just be working out and seeing my family for a bit.
