Sephora is leaving The Netherlands in June and to me that is a major bummer. Why? Because there are a few of the Sephora brand items that I absolutely love. Today I’m reviewing the first one for you: the waterproof eye make up remover.

As you can see in the picture above, this remover is a 2-phase make up remover. It consists of an oily substance and a watery one. In order to use this, you simply shake it up to combine the two so you get this:

The next thing I like to do is pour some on a cotton pad and then I’m all ready to go. But before we go more into ‘usage’ and how this product works for me, let’s have a look at what Sephora has to say about the product.

What it is:
A waterproof eye makeup remover suitable for contact lens wearers and those with sensitive eyes.

What it does:
This do-it-all formula removes waterproof makeup and contains a lash-strengthening complex that’s rich in flavonoids and olive wood extracts.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Synthetic Fragrances
– Phthalates
– GMOs
– Triclosan

What else you need to know:
HydroSenn+ is a plant-derived ingredient exclusive to Sephora that leaves skin feeling soft and luxuriously comfortable. This product is ophthalmologist tested and suits sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.

My main issue with eye make up removers is that they usually irritate my eyes or the skin around my eyes fairly easily. I have been using this product for over 1.5 years and not once has it given me infections, dry/ flaky skin, redness, rashes or itchiness. I simply love how soft this feels on my skin. You can definitely feel that it is a bit oily, but it is not so oily that it greases you up like you would when you use olive oil or any other oil based cleansing method. I personally don’t like the feel of too oily substances on my skin as that usually causes me to get break outs as it’s too rich for my skin. This product balances the oil/water combination perfectly for me.

I also like how it is free of some bad stuff, though I usually don’t really check ingredient lists unless it’s a face cream. When it comes to eye make up remover I just want it to take off my make up, even the heaviest smokey eye, without giving me zits or drying out my skin. And I just told you that this does neither. So the real question is: how well does it work?

Well, like a charm. When using this make up remover, your eye make up literally melts away and is taken off instantly. I used to use a Dior cleanser for a while and loved it, but I’m not willing to pay 25 euros for a product that I go through this quickly. I tried some other brands and they simply didn’t work as well. I started using this and boom: it works as good, if not better, than the Dior one. It takes off my make up in one go apart from mascara which always takes some more effort with any cleanser I’ve used. Heavy black smokey eyes do give you the panda look after a first swipe, but I can usually take off the excess product the second time.

Even the longlasting Urban Decay 24/7 liners, waterproof eyeliner, and some of my most resilient lipsticks are no game for this make up remover. That, combined with the fact that it’s soft on my skin and simply does the job made me repurchase this product over and over over again. I go through a bottle in 3 months time when I use it 5 times a week. Not bad! And it isn’t too expensive either: 7.50 euros a pop, but with the standard 15% discount it comes down to a little over 5 euros per bottle.

This is roughly the amount I use to clean one eye. I use a clean cotton pad with an equal amount  of product to clean the other.

In short, I simply love this product and it’s the one thing I’m gonna miss once Sephora is gone. I hope that, by the time I get myself to Sephora again, I will still be able to hoard this stuff like crazy. I’m seriously considering of starting a year’s supply and hope I can make it to Paris before I run out so I can get my hands on more.

What is your favorite make up remover that isn’t too expensive? Because going to Paris just for make up remover would be a tad crazy. So finding a replacement would be best.
