NOTW: Sparkle sparkle in the dark

Today I have not one, but two nail art looks that I created just recently. They are easy, simple and versatile as you can easily make these with different colors. I am currently into dark nail colors which I then top with glitter, but since that can be a pain to remove, I decided to change things up and do a glitter french manicure as well. Most of the polishes I used, are affordable as well.

Ta-dah! The two looks side by side: one is a dark green base color topped with an array of gold and green glitter in a black transparent base. The second is a pewter base color that has a duochrome effect with green and purple. The tips of my nails are coated in a multicolor glitter. Here are some close up!

Products used:

  • Trind nail hardener (base coat)
  • KOH seaweed
  • NYC Rock Muse Smoky Top Coat in Green Day
  • Sally Hansen Insta Dry anti chip top coat

The base color I used is a blackened green: it’s close to black, but you can still see it’s green. I thought it would pair nicely with this top coat. The transparent black base darkens up the base color, but not so that it loses the green color. The glitters make the nails look just a tad more interesting and I like how there are gold as well as green glitters to liven everything up a bit. This stayed on for 5 days before it started chipping.

Products used:

  • Trind nail hardener as base coat
  • Essence Color to Go Chic Reloaded
  • Barry M Amethyst Glitter
  • Sally Hansen Insta Dry anti chip top coat

I like this duochrome color as it’s a bit like the oil colored ones that a lot of brands do, but this one pulls a lot more grey and looks a bit classier I feel than most other duo chromes of its kind which sometimes give off this look as if you simply stuck your fingers in a jar of tar. To add a bit of pre-Christmas glitter (and really, just to use this great glitter by Barry M), I added the glitter tips. I simply dabbed it on with the nail polish wand and this look didn’t last long unfortunately. After 1.5 days it began to chip and peel off.

Two quick and easy nail looks, which I loved and liked. I got quite a few comments on the last one from students, colleagues and random strangers alike.

What colors do you wear on your nails?
