A little while ago, Dutch beautyblogger Serena from Beautylab.nl made up this Summer Time tag. I thought it would be fun to fill out. I translated the questions to English for the purpose of this blog. Feel free to fill it out as well if you want. Enjoy your Sunday!
1.) Tell us something about your biggest summer vacation crush.
My very first vacation without parents was when I was 16 (I turned 17 ON the vacation). With 4 of my highschool friends I went to Blanes, a seaside town on the Spanish Costa Brava. And that’s when I had my first and biggest vacation crush. His name was Roel and it was your typical summer fling. We were in touch for a little while afterwards, but we simply lost track after a few months. A few years later I found out he had studied at the school I was teaching at. Funny how your past comes creeping up on you sometimes.
2.) What is your most epic summer memory?
Most epic? Summer festivals, trips to the USA, I can name a few things. If there is one memory that I think is most epic, it’d have to be the helicopter ride I took to and over the Grand Canyon in 2008. It was sunset, there were pending thunder storms in the distance and the most magnificent rainbow over the Grand Canyon. On the way back we got caught in a thunder storm, so we had to land (which wasn’t part of the trip officially). We were able to get back nonetheless, but I still look at the pictures of that trip and think: did I actually take these?
3.) Top 3 favorite ice creams?
Pistachio ice cream from the Italian ice cream parlor on my street. Ben & Jerry’s Karamel Sutra. Homemade popsicles.
4.) What summer event are you looking forward to this year?
I already went on an amazing trip so the rest of my summer has been nice and quite. My highlight was of course my 22 day InterRail trip. It’s one of the highlights of my life, so it would be crazy not to mention it. Other than that I’m really looking forward to starting my new job next week!
5.) What do you do when you stay home for your summer holidays?
Watch movies/ TV series, listen to music, read, visit friends & family. Just plain and simple. Maybe go to a museum. Hang out at the park. Go to the beach. Work out. Just the usual day off stuff, but with something extra mixed in. I also always plan a mother-daughter day with my mom during my summer holidays. We had one last Thursday and went shopping in Breda, the city where I will soon be working.
6.) What is your favorite summer clothing item, summer song and drink?
A dress! Of course. You can simply throw it on and you’re good to go. My current favorite summer song is Time by Jungle. It will be featured on here very soon. My favorite summer drink is homemade green iced tea. So refreshing and easy to do!
7.) Favorite summery snack?
Fruit. Especially peaches and strawberries. I also love melons but I never end up eating one by myself so I tend not to buy them that often. I love love love peaches though. The flat, white ones are my favorites.
8.) What are your favorite summer perfume, lipstick and nail polish?
My favorite summer perfume is Marc Jacobs Daisy or Balenciaga Florabotanica. But the latter is slowly but surely becoming my staple scent and I wear it year round. My favorite summer lipstick is anything that is bright and fun. MAC Candy Yum Yum comes to mind first. Nail polish wise I would go with a fun color as well. Pinky corals or bright blues are my favorites, such as Essie Cute as a Button or Barry M Blue Grape.
9.) What is the biggest disadvantage of summer?
That it is sometimes too hot to be doing anything. That and mosquitoes.
10.) What is your most memorable summer memory?
Most memorable summer memory would have to be family vacations to England & Wales. My parents would haul me and my brother into the car and drive us to the boat, to drive even further into England visit castles, Stonehenge and London during 3 different trips. My dad would drive, my mom would navigate (which always ended up being a disaster, sorry mom) and my brother and I would keep ourselves entertained in the back with songs on our walkmans. During one particular trip we were on our way from the South of England to Wales and on the way we drove past a road sign saying: Abergavenny. My mom knew there was a song with that title, kept on singing it, and it took us more than 6 months to find the song. The year was 1999 and even Napster had yet to be invented.
