Catrice eyebrow filler & definer

My brows are quite possibly the easiest part of my make up to do. I am blessed with quite full, be it messy, brows that only need a bit of filling in. I don’t need to shape, draw on, or do anything else. I pluck them once a week (could do with a bit more, but I tend to overpluck when I do it more often), and I use a bit of brow powder to fill in the sparser areas and set it with some brow gel. That was my routine for a long time. Until I spotted two new products in Catrice’s extende range. I picked up both the Eyebrow Filler and Brow Definer in color 020 and immediately started using them. And I’m hooked!

These two products have made a huge change to my make up routine. Yet, the change in itself isn’t that big. The Eyebrow Filler – Perfecting and Shaping Gel is nothing but a colored eyebrow gel and the Longlasting Brow Definer is nothing but eyebrow color in a pen. However, these products make my brow routine that much easier and quicker to do and for so little money. The Eyebrow Filler – Perfecting & Shaping Gel and Longlasting Brow Definer cost €3.59 and €3.39 a piece.

Catrice Eyebrow Filler – Perfecting & Shaping Gel in 020 Make A Bow Wow

What Catrice says:

MAKE A BOW WOW

This naturally tinted eyebrow filler grooms, thickens and defines your brows. Fibres integrated in the texture fill in small gaps and irregularities. The neutral colour suits eyebrows of all colours. Easy to use and fast-drying without clumping, the Perfecting & Shaping Gel gives your eyes a beautiful, expressive look.

In short, it should give the illusion of a thicker and more defined brow. It should also fill in gaps. It is available in 020 and 030: the second being part of the regular line a tad darker. That’s why I love this addition. It’s not only lighter, but also ashier looking which suits me better I think. All in all, this sounds very promising.

The information on the packaging is clear: this shade is suitable for light to medium brow shades. Since I have blonde hair, but darker brows, I’m always a bit stuck on what brow color to go with. Too dark and my brows become to strict looking, too light and you cannot see the effect. I have quite some gaps to fill though, which is why this product definitely peaked my interest.

The packaging is plain and simple: it’s like a mascara tube. The wand is also reminiscent of a very basic mascara. The texture is quite wet and not at all clumpy as promised. The color is quite light and ashy. I think this would be too dark though if you have very light colored brows. For my medium colored brows this colors seems very promising.

I think you’d like this product if you’re looking for a very natural, yet defined eyebrow look. Because it definitely defines the brow hairs. However, the biggest gaps in my brows are right at the front of my brow and I don’t feel it does too good a job of filling those in. You can clearly see where the product caught on properly and that leaves that entire front bit looking sparse. As a result my brow seems to start a lot further off to the side than it is and should. But it definitely makes my brows look a lot neater. In other words, I like it, but I feel my brows need a little bit extra.

What Catrice says:

BROW MASTER

This innovative eyebrow pen with a unique liquid formula provides natural colour results for perfectly defined brows. You can visibly thicken your eyebrows and even out irregularities in the brow structure with its extra thin applicator brush. The unique formula lasts all day long without smudging.

The problem with most brow colors used to fill in brows, is that it can quickly look fake. You easily end up with nothing but a block of color. I was hoping the pen tip would not only give me some well needed color to fill in those gaps, but that it would also look natural as I felt I would be able to imitate brow hairs with the fine tip quite easily. The fact that this product promises to stay all day is just an added bonus.

Catrice promises a very fine tip that should lead to a precise application. And when I first opened this up, I definitely liked what I saw. The swatches made me even happier. The color has a lovely ash undertone. So that means this would go nicely with my blonde hair, while hopefully still giving the color I need to fill in the gaps. I found that the first time I used it, the pen gave off more color than it does now. And that’s not because it is drying out. I just think there was an excess of product stuck in the tip when I first used it. By now, because I’m using it on a daily basis, the effect I get is a very natural, yet full and defined brow.

My other brow is a bit more densely populated, but still you can see the difference and the effect of both products clearly on my brows. The fine tip easily manoeuvres itself between my brow hair, allowing me to add small strokes. It is important to know when to stop though. It’s easy to overdo it when you look at your brows up close in the mirror. So go back and forth and check regularly what it looks like from a distance.

With this pen it’s also easy to fill in the front of my brow. Something powder never ever seems to do: it just doesn’t catch on. I can easily draw up a few additional hairs to make my brows seems a bit fuller at the front, without overdoing it. My last reason for being happy with this product, is the fact that the color is spot on.

As a last step, I was curious to see whether adding the Brow Filler on top, would make any more of a difference to my brows. And that’s when everything came together for me. Combined with the brow definer to fill in the caps, the brow filler adds that amount of definition to the brow hairs to give it a brushed through and well-groomed look. The result: a full looking, well-defined brow which still looks natural.

Do I really have to add how much I love these products? Especially the combination of the two has changed the way my brows look for the better, I think. The pen is easy to use and it’s much quicker than brow powder. Plus you don’t need a brush so it makes for an easy to use travel companion too. The brow gel is also quick and easy and can be used on its own if your brows need no other help. The colors of these two products fit me perfectly too and so it is safe to say that I think I have found two new make up holy grails.
