30 day make up challenge #13: Contouring

A make up technique I only just started applying is contouring. I don’t do it every day, and I definitely am not very good at it. I feel I just haven’t found the right brush yet to ensure a nicely blended contour. So far, I’ve succeeded in drawing a line, but I usually find them too harsh. In addition, I have a very narrow face, contouring the sides of my face is thus something I do not always fancy doing. I had never ventured into the realm of contoured eye looks yet and so this post features tons of firsts. A first attempt at a noticeable contour as well as a contoured eye look including a cut crease.

For a first attempt at a cut crease I don’t think it’s too shabby. My only problem is that the minute I open my eyes the entire effect is gone. Pity, but that’s what usually happens with many eye looks in my case. My eye shape simply doesn’t allow me to do elaborate crease work other than darkening it up. They also don’t like winged liner, which is another reason why I hardly ever use it. I like the overall eye look though, despite the fact that the cut crease isn’t as sharp as it could have been. It’s sort of a pin up eye look, but with a bit more interest.

Face wise I kept things simple and went in with what can quite easily be dubbed as my current favorite blush: Benefit Coralista. I used a Real Techniques contour brush to contour my cheeks, nose and forehead. In the last picture below you clearly see the forehead contour. In the picture right after the eye close ups you can more clearly see the cheek contour. I’m still not sure I’m feeling it. It’s one of the reasons why I go back and forth between applying contour and not doing it at all. It’s not something I think my face really needs. I like doing it on my forehead because it’s high and it’s a good way of adding some more shape to it. But without a cheek contour I easily forget to do my forehead.
