ThisWorks Deep Sleep Stress Less roller ball

Sleeping is one of my favorite things in the world. I love to sleep in and love my bed. Unfortunately I know very well what it’s like to be sleep deprived and having trouble sleeping. I’m easily stressed out and overthink things. Leading to my lying in bed at the end of the day, and just having all these thought milling around. I have gathered plenty of tips for a good night’s sleep in the course of time, but that would be a completely different article. I picked up the This Works roller ball, because I was curious whether I would notice any difference.

I bought the roller ball version of the Deep Sleep line by This Works from Harvey Nichols when I was in London last month. It cost 12 pounds, which I didn’t find too steep and a good enough price for giving something a go. I started using it right after I got back from my trip, so by now I’ve been using it for almost one month.

Some promises on the packaging

I didn’t know anything about This Works yet. I just heard about it from bloggers and youtubers and when I found the brand I thought I’d give it a browse. I was interested to read on their website that they are a UK brand that believes in eco friendly sourcing while using nature’s power to try and create a beauty line for modern needs. They seem to have a no nonsense approach and try to make real products, with real ingredients that work.

This Works has an entire line of Deep Sleep products. It ranges from shower gels and bath soaks to pillow sprays and the roller ball I’m showing you today. This is what This Works says about the roller ball:

A soothing natural rescue remedy (in a roller ball) to help you breathe more easily and calm your senses promoting a better nights sleep.

In addition to this promise, the packaging also promises to ‘refresh sinuses’ and use of eucalyptus and frankincense oils to enhance your relaxation. Looking at the list of ingredients, it’s easy to see that this is all oil and no perfume. Eucalyptus, lavender, and plenty of other oils are present in this product, which I thought was really good for the price. I’d half expected there to be perfume in it.

The roller ball itself is small and compact. I think this would be very handy for traveling. The packaging is straight forward and hygienic, which is a plus. The ball dispenses just the right amount of product and I find that a little goes a long way. I’ve been using this for almost a month, every night, and if you were to look at my bottle, you can’t even see that any product is gone.

The way I use this, is as instructed. After I use my hand cream, I round off my bedtime routine by gently rolling this onto my wrists. I then give it a good sniff. I’ve even gotten into the habit of turning onto my sides first and tucking my hands under my chin so I can smell it just a little longer.

Of course, you’d like to know what this smells like. I think it smells heavenly. You can definitely pick up on the eucalyptus and lavender and I love that smell. It reminds me off the cold salve my mom used to rub on me when I was sick as a kid. And that’s one thing I love about this product: it helps clear my sinuses and I can breathe more easily. The scent is there, but not too heavy. It smells fresh and soothing. I was afraid it might be a tad overpowering (which is why I picked up the roller ball and not the spray, since heavy scents can trigger my asthma), but it is just the right amount and doesn’t linger too long.

But the real question is: does this work for a better night’s sleep? I’m a little skeptical about it still, but I know for a fact that certain smells can help me sleep better. It’s the reason why I swear by Lush’ Flying Fox shower gel, for instance, whenever I take a pre-bed time shower. But it’s definitely not as if I notice a huge difference between nights where I use the roller ball and nights where I forget to put it on.

What I like about it though, is that I do find it soothing. It’s almost as if my brain thinks: right, time for bed, the minute I sniff this. The fact that I love the smell also helps of course and I have some lovely childhood memories attached to it too. It’s almost as if my mom is there to tuck me in again.

Have you tried anything from This Works?
