There’s a tag making the rounds, and where usually I feel like I can do a tag whenever I like, with this one, I knew I had to do it asap. I simply love food, hence my Tuesday being devoted to all things cooking and food related. It would only make sense for me to answer these 15 questions. I translated these from Dutch, so let me know if a question doesn’t make sense!
What is your favorite breakfast?
Yoghurt with fresh fruit and flax seeds. Banana, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are my favorites. Though not at the same time ;-).
How do you drink your coffee?
I am not much of a coffee drinker. I sometimes have a cappuccino at work as a pick me up at the end of the day. I treat myself to a Starbucks Caramel Macchiatto once a week. And right now with their Christmas specials out, I am going for a Toffee Nut latte. But I’m a tea girl at heart.
What is your favorite sandwich?
Sandwiches are a bit off my menu since I am wheat intolerant. But when I do have a sandwich I love a goat’s cheese or blue cheese variety. However, I can also crave a sandwich with filet americain from time to time.
Soup or salad?
Salad. I only like soups in winter, but I eat salads year round.
What is your favorite cook book?
My homemade one? I hardly use cookbooks, but I made my own in which I write down my favorite recipes. I blogged about it here.
No more sweet or no more savory?
No more savory. I have a major sweet tooth.
Which cuisine is your favorite?
Italian? I love a good pasta or pizza from time to time, but sushi is my all time favorite food.
What is your favorite food movie?
Eeeehh… No clue! I watch some food documentaries from time to time. The last one I watched was Fed Up, about how companies and governments lie about food and weight loss for their benefits rather than yours.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate/ candy bars. I could eat a Twix or Snickers bar (or both) every day of the week, if it wouldn’t be such a problem for my waistline.
Who is your biggest cooking inspiration?
Jamie Oliver because he not only has some great recipes but also cares about eating real food. I also watch his FoodTube channel from time to time. I also like Detoxinista when I need to find healthier options for snacks and other meals.
Home cooking or going out for dinner?
Home cooking. If I go out to dinner, chances are I end up getting sick afterwards because apart from a salad there isn’t much I can have on any menu. I love to cook anyway, so I don’t mind.
High end or low profile?
Low profile. I like finding little hole in the wall places over the places where you go to see and be seen.
What is your favorite restaurant?
I don’t go out to dinner that often, but when I do I usually end up at the Bierbengel in Leiden.
I buy my groceries from…?
My organic supermarket (Ekoplaza), supermarket (Hoogvliet) and the farmer’s market. But I sometimes also end up at a more local organic supermarket (Zaailing) and De Tuinen to buy some products they don’t sell anywhere else, such as wheat/ gluten free products and protein powder.
The best dish I ever had was…
Homemade cauliflower pizza, my mom’s homemade macaroni, sushi.
What is your favorite cocktail?
I like my cocktails to taste either tart or zesty. So I like vodka based drinks with lots of crushed ice and limes.
Coffee with George Clooney or Heston Blumenthal?
Who? George of course!
What needs to be in your kitchen at all times?
Eggs, yoghurt, frozen spinach, frozen fruit, bananas, flax seeds.
My favorite snack is…
Rice cakes, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, carrots, fruit and chocolate.
What is your favorite pizza topping?
Pepperoni. But when I make cauliflower pizza I like to go with just mushrooms and tomatoes.
Any foods you really don’t like?
White asparagus, cooked chicory (witlof) and cold milk.
My favorite food blog is…
Detoxinista.com, DeGroeneMeisjes.nl, and I simply scour the web whenever I need a new recipe.
The strangest thing I ever ate was…
People tell me I eat strange things all the time since I went on wheat free, but I’m sure that’s not what’s meant by the question. I think fried liver, balkenbrij (fried up brains which is a local delicatessen where my parents live) and zult (which is cooked brains, another thing from Brabant).
What is on your food bucket list?
A rainbow cake. But that will not be feasible until I find a place with a bigger kitchen.
I can’t live without…
Yoghurt (it’s the reason why I could never be vegan), bananas, flax seeds and tea.
