Happy new hair!

I got my hair cut! An event that was long overdue. I just hadn’t had the time to get myself to my hairdresser to get it sorted out. So I really waited until I thought my hair truly needed some sprucing. I took some before and after pictures to show you the results.

I snapped this picture the minute I got home from the hairdresser’s. I got my hair cut at Sjenkels in Leiden. It’s a 2 minute walk from my house and I went their last time as well. I even had the same stylist so I knew my hair was in good hands. I have tried several hairdressers in my life time. And this was only the second time I went to this place. I changed it up last year because the other hairdresser I used to go to changed their staffing and I was left who didn’t know what to do with my hair. So I searched for another one and decided on Sjenkels one day as I passed by while getting groceries.

This is a before shot. If you’re curious what eyeliner I’m wearing, stay tuned as a review of it will be up on Wednesday. My layers had completely grown out. It had been almost 6 months since I had it last cut. Even though my hair was still healthy it simply didn’t look that way anymore. The fullness was completely gone from the bottom. There was no body left and my natural waves had all but disappeared. So something had to be done.

Left: before – Right: after

What a difference a hair cut makes! On the left is the picture I took a few hours before going to the hairdresser’s. On the right is my hair yesterday morning after a wash and a sleep and WITHOUT any styling products. Yes, that is my natural hair that I had dry in a bun overnight. That’s how I usually go about styling my hair. All I do after washing it is put in some leave-in conditioner, tie it up and go to bed. I wake up the next morning with a long mane of waves. To set my hair in place I use the Sassoon Edit Hold spray.

Last but not least I thought I’d show you a before and after of my hairdresser’s visit and what it looks like when I don’t style it up. When I get my hair cut, hairdresser’s blow dry my hair straight to see if the layers are all nicely done. I cannot get this effect myself without putting in major effort (think blow drying AND straightening my hair which takes about 45 minutes) and I just can’t be bothered to torture my hair like that after every single wash. To be quite honest I really like my wavy hair and so I usually just wear my hair loose and wavy.

I’m glad my waves are back and my hair looks fuller and healthier again. It’s about 2 inches shorter than it was and all the layers are back, making my hair look about 100x better than before. I’m a happy bunny and here’s a reminder to myself that I should get my hair cut more often to maintain this look.
