The Rimmel make up line in the UK is far more extensive than the one in The Netherlands. During my trip to England, I thus ventured to pick up a few items that I know we don’t have and that I hear plenty of UK bloggers rave about. One such thing is the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer. Revered by Tanya Burr, this concealer is a beauty blogger favorite and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer in 010 Ivory
At 5.49 pounds a piece, this concealer is only slightly more expensive than that other UK drugstore favorite concealer: the Collection 16h Lasting Perfection. I have that too and I absolutely adore that concealer, but I just haven’t gotten round to writing up a full review just yet. This product is available in 4 shades of which I bought the lightest: 010 Ivory.
The Wake Me Up concealer comes in very simple packaging. It looks like a lip gloss tube and has an orange cap which corresponds with the foundation that is part of this same line. Now, I didn’t buy that foundation as it is supposed to be very radiant, which for a foundation I am not particularly after. For a concealer however, I need all the anti-fatigue & radiance I can get to lift my under eye area.
The claims are on the packaging. This is supposed to give a full coverage while illuminating the under eye area. According to Rimmel this should be usable on spots and blemishes, but with a reflecting concealer such as this, I don’t think that is advisable. With blemishes you want to hide it as much as possible and I feel a light-reflecting concealer such as this would only emphasize those spots rather than hide them. But since I only ever use concealer on my under eye area this isn’t really a concern for me.
The concealer comes with a bog standard doe foot applicator. These are the ingredients:
AQUA/WATER/EAU, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, TALC, CETYL PEG/ PPG-10/1 DIMETHICONE, GLYCERIN, ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE, TRIBEHENIN, ISONONYL ISONONANOATE, MAGNESIUM SULFATE, BISPEG/PPG-14/14 DIMETHICONE, LECITHIN, MICA, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, LAURETH-7, POLYMETHYL METHACRYLATE, SILICA DIMETHYL SILYLATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, CHLORPHENESIN, DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, XANTHAN GUM, DISODIUM STEAROYL GLUTAMATE, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, GLYCERYL POLYMETHACRYLATE, DISODIUM EDTA, ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE, PEG-8, ASCORBYL GLUCOSIDE, BHT, SODIUM PCA, UREA, SODIUM LACTATE, POLYQUATERNIUM-51, SODIUM HYALURONATE, TREHALOSE, PALMITOYL OLIGOPEPTIDE, TRIACETIN, BENZOIC ACID, POTASSIUM SORBATE. [MAY CONTAIN/PEUT CONTENIR/+/-: TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)].
There is nothing on this list which makes me go: oh no, but then again, I hardly understand most of it. It does contain silicone so if you are allergic to that you may want to avoid this.
Color wise this concealer is spot on for me. I like using a slightly lighter concealer for that extra bit of optical lift underneath my eyes. The concealer is easy to apply and blends in easily.
The reason why this concealer blends in easily is because it has quite a wet consistency. The Collection concealer has a much creamier/ drier texture than this. Which came as a surprise, because I was unsure of how this could be full coverage if the swatch already shows some gaps where my skin shines through the concealer.
Applied to my eyes I found that with this concealer the rule of thumb is that a little goes a long way. Exactly because of the runny consistency this concealer blends into the skin like it’s nothing, but definitely covers up what needs covering. It evens out my under eye area quite easily and takes care of the slight blue bruise like coloring I have in my inner corner eye area. This hardly creases on me after using a little bit of powder to set as well.
In conclusion, I can say that this concealer is indeed as good as everyone says it is. It covers the under eye perfectly, it lifts the eye optically and stays put all day. And those are the only demands I have for a good under eye concealer. Such a shame this concealer isn’t readily available outside the UK!
