Phyto 7 Hydrating Day Cream for Dry Hair

Suffer from dry hair like me? Have you tried serums, oils and what not, and have those only led to the exact opposite of dry hair? Greasy and slimy looking? Yep, those were my problems too. So I went on the hunt for a leave in conditioner that would nourish my hair, not weigh it down, but keep it frizz and poof free as much as possible. And I have found just the thing.

Phyto 7 Hydrating Day Cream for Dry Hair with 7 Plants

And that is this Phyto 7 hydrating day cream. Wait?! A day cream? For you hair? Yes, it is as crazy as it sounds, but that is exactly what made me pick this up from Space NK last fall. It retails for 15.50 pounds for 50 ml. That is more expensive than other hair products I use, but with this you only need a little and so it lasts a long time.

Phyto is a French pharmacy haircare brand that uses plant extracts and essential oils to make their haircare products. I had never heard of the brand, but after a browse at Space NK I thought this product might be a good solution for my dull and dry looking hair that is fine and thus goes limp the minute I add any type of leave-in conditioner. This promises to make dry hair look glossy, prevents split ends and combat frizz.

The way the product does that is because it includes 7 different pure plant extracts: Mallow, Calendula, Sage, Burdock, Willow, Soybean and Rosemary. It is a product which is recommended to use on fine to medium textured hair, but I cannot find on the website what each of the plant extracts is supposed to do exactly. There is even a more potent version on the market for extremely dry hair, called Phyto 9, which boasts all 7 plant extracts that this has including macadamia oil and St. John’s Wort.

Some information from the booklet included in the packaging.

From Space NK:

Hydrating day cream for dry hair with 7 plants
Infused with 7 pure and natural plant extracts, this leave-in conditioner quickly absorbs into the hair fiber to help maintain an optimal hydration level, preventing frizz, static and split ends.

Key Benefits:

  • Adds shine
  • Increased hydration prevents split ends
  • Prevents static and frizziness

Leave-In | Silicone Free

So what intrigued me about this, is that is can be used on dry hair, combats frizziness and split ends (my two major nemesis come haircare) and the fact that this truly isn’t an oil and it’s silicone free to boot.

If you look at the list of ingredients you can see that there are a lot of natural ingredients in this products. I would say about 80% worth. It is supposed to be used as a daily cream, should be absorbed quickly and not weigh the hair down. You only need about a pea-sized amount to achieve results and can be used on both towel-dry or dry hair. Focus should be on the ends.

And that’s exactly how I use this. I apply a pea-sized amount on the ends of my hair after letting my hair dry for a bit in a towel. I do not use this on dry hair as that will instantly make my hair greasier. I twirl up my hair in a bun and let it dry overnight. The result? Hardly any split ends, healthy looking waves that do not weigh down AND the frizziness is down to a minimum.

And this is all the amount you need: just a little bit on your finger tips will do. The product is very runny but feels very creamy and has a very non-described herbal smell. That last bit takes some getting used to, but for a product that does the trick, it is well worth it. So far, I’ve been using this product for more than 6 months and only about half of the tube is gone by now.

The best part about this product is that my hairdresser no longer insists on giving me hair masks every time I get my hair cut. Also, I have been finding the need for a hair mask has diminished by miles. Before I would use a hair mask almost every other week, to prevent my hair to dry out. But with only a small drop of this after every wash it’s now been months since I last used a hair mask. By the time I think: hm my hair feels a bit dry, I should use a hair mask, it’s pretty much time to go to the hairdresser’s for some sprucing up any ways.

In short, I have found a new holy grail haircare product. Unfortunately I forgot to take before pictures when I started using this, so I cannot really show you the difference. However, I can tell you that before I started using this, I would much more quickly pull my hair up to hide the frizz, than I do now. What a life changer this has been.

What leave-in conditioner do you use?
