Dior lipstick round up

When it comes to the highest priced make up brands, my favorite would have to be Dior. I feel their overall collection is well-rounded, with plenty of classics (but not only) and the odd bright pop of color (yet nothing too crazy). One side of the brand I hadn’t really explored much yet were their lipsticks. I bought two red numbers what feels light light years ago and earlier this year I reviewed the limited edition lipgloss in Fastes. Time to get a feel for a few of their newer lip products.

My overall experience with Dior lip products up until trying these was a bit meh. For the amount of money they puppies cost, it was a bummer to have one of the best reds on the planet break on me after only swatching it (Dior 999). By now I depotted that and that’s been allowing me to use it. I kept the packaging because it was just too pretty. So I was pretty skeptical when I purchased these. Luckily, they now have changed my opinion for the better. Not only did these not break on me, but the colors are stunning and a tad different from most lipsticks that are around.

Dior Dior Addict Fluid Lipstick Fabulous Wear High Impact Glossy Colour Lip Hybrid 754 Pandore

Let’s start with a liquid lipstick. Just before the true hype hit the airwaves, Dior launched their version as part of the spring/ summer collection of 2014. I mainly wanted one of these because of the packaging. Not gonna lie. That clear tube with the brand name embossed onto the side showing what looks like a lipstick inside is just ingenious. The packaging is reminiscent of the regular Dior Addict line, but where those come with a creamy sheer lipstick, this comes with a doe foot applicator, much like a lipgloss would.

When I saw these in store, the color Pandore, which was the lead color for that collection I believe, was the one that captured my eye the most. This is a pretty glossy, coral shade that has a pleasant texture. It is not too sticky, but still tacky enough for it to last at least through a glass of water. It won’t last all day, but like a creamy lipstick this will wear for 3 – 4 hours. After a full meal you will have to reapply this and I find that unlike some  more fuller on version of this type of product this wears nicely as it doesn’t leave that disastrous ring around your lip line.

The lipstick is easy to apply and since this doesn’t set matte like many of the liquid lipsticks out there, you have some time to work with it when you apply it. The glossy finish is subtle but noticeable. The color may look straight up coral in the tube, but on my lips it pulls more pink or orange depending on how the light hits it. It is a bright shade without being too in your face. I find this is a great every day brighter lip option for work.

Dior Rouge Dior Couture Colour Voluptuous Care 757 Souveraine

Souveraine is a lipstick from Dior’s regular lipstick line. It is a creamy lipstick in a pretty pink shade (see below). It is one of my favorite lipstick colors for spring and looks very healthy on the lips. The regular lipstick line by Dior comes in some of the most stunning packaging ever. The dark blue set off with the silver iconic cannage print band is classy and sophisticated looking.

I picked up this lipstick when there was a discount at one of my local high end beauty stores. I mainly bought it because I wanted to try another Dior lipstick after the fiasco with one of the first ones I tried. I checked and rechecked this for cracks and mistakes before I took it home. Out of all the colors on offer, this one was love at first swatch.

The reason for that is because this isn’t an ordinary pink lipstick. It is a very bright pink in the tube, but on the lips it looks a lot more muted and natural. You can see that the lipstick contains some silver shimmer, but this shimmer is not visible on the lips. In some weird way the reflects (which were very off putting to me at first) are what makes this lipstick. One the lips this leads to fuller, more luscious looking lips without it being overdone. If I had to make a blog post on my favorite high end lipsticks, this would be part of that list. Well done, Dior!

Dior Rouge Dior Couture Colour Voluptuous Care 988 Rialto

Finally there is Rialto. Another spur of the moment decision which I made when a beauty store in town was closing down. I had never heard of or seen this color anywhere else before, but when I saw its pretty deep red shade I knew it had to come home with me. It is from the same regular line as Souveraine, but I have a feeling this may have been part of a limited edition collection due to the high number this has.

It has the same gorgeous packaging as Souveraine and just feel super luxurious and chique. Since these are creamy lipstick the wear time of these aren’t the best, but with shades this pretty I don’t mind whipping out the lipstick halfway through the day to reapply. These wear around 3 – 4 hours, which for a creamy lipstick isn’t too bad.

The color on this is like a darker raspberry red. It has a hint of pink to it which makes this more wearable, but it is still a darker red which makes this a great lipstick for a vampy red lip if you’re not that daring. Like Souveraine, this lipstick has some miniscule reflects to it. In this one they are more reddish gold toned, rather than silver. On the lips these reflects are invisible yet again, but rather gives the lips a more plump and saturated look.

Pandore – Souveraine – Rialto

Pigmentation of all three lipsticks is spot on. These glide onto the lips so easily, it is insane. They are some of the easiest lipsticks to apply and because the colors aren’t too crazy it isn’t too big of a problem if your lipline isn’t 100% perfect. So these are great for a quick application whether it is because you are rushing out the door, or reapplying your lipstick in between meals.

On the lips, my natural lip color does alter the shades a bit. This is the most noticeable with Pandore which looks more orange or pink rather than a full on coral depending on how the lighting hits my lips. Souveraine and Rialto most look like their swatches, but since Souveraine is a bit lighter it is a bit less bright on my lips than in the swatch.

In these pictures you can perfectly see what I mean. Pandore looks a lot more pink on me and Souveraine is a tad darker on my lips than in the swatch. I personally love Rialto the best from how it looks on me, but that is also influenced by the stunning eye look I am wearing in these pictures. That lipstick goes so perfectly with Dior’s Trafalgar eyeshadow palette, it is insane. Overall, Souveraine gives me the freshest look of the three, whereas Souveraine serves more as a subtle pop of color for spring and summer.

I think it’s safe to conclude that I absolutely adore all three products. They may cost half a limb, but I find they are well worth it. Despite the fact that these may look like run of the mill shades at first glance I really think the formula and look of these on the lips is something else and worth the money. If you are looking for a great every day lip color and you’re willing to splurge, then go ahead and take the plunge, because Dior lip products are amazing. I can now vouch for that.
