Lookbook fall 2015: fall staples

It’s lookbook time! It’s been three months since I last did one of these and with fall running its course in full swing I had to go and make one of these again. Fall is quite possibly one of my favorite seasons to get dressed as it allows you to play around with layers, textures and prints. On top of that, I love the fall color scheme: give me mustards, maroons, burgundys and navys any chance you get and I’m your gal.

These 5 outfits are all outfits I wore to work these past few weeks, or variations on some of my favorite outfits. I have been really into wearing pencil skirts lately and I love bringing out my expansive cardigan collection. However, I also love a good blouse, dress and pants that you can throw into the mix any time. These outfits all contain some of my fall staple pieces, hence the title of this blog post.

Black cardigan (HEMA)
Cream lace peplum top (H&M)
Black pencil skirt (H&M)
Black tights (Primark)
Grey ankle boots (H&M)

Outfit numero uno! I went with an all black outfit with a few light highlights. The ankle boots I bought during the summer sale and the lace peplum top is from last year’s collection, so I don’t think these are still available. By keeping the base neutral and monochrome, I feel the lace of the top adds a little bit of interest and texture to an otherwise plain outfit. Fall staples in this outfit: a black cardigan, a black pencil skirt, and ankle boots.

Burgundy t-shirt (H&M)
Black fuzzy cardigan (H&M)
Grey floral print pencil skirt (H&M)
Black tights (Primark)
Burgundy peep toe patent leather mary jane heels (Zara)

Like I said above, I have been loving wearing pencils skirts. Paired with a good heel and color coordinating your other pieces, I find a pencil skirt can be a center piece to an outfit. It certainly is in this one! I decided to add burgundy as an accent color as the skirt also has a few hints of a burgundy/ plum shade and I wanted to play it up. Staples from my wardrobe: the black fuzzy cardigan and this amazing pencil skirt.

A not so stripy, stripy dress (H&M)
Burgundy knit cardigan (Urban Outfitters)
Black tights (Primark)
Burgundy brogues (Bronx)

Don’t think I have given up on my love for all things dresses yet. Oh no! You know I had to feature a dress and I chose this stretchy and super comfortable skater dress from H&M that I have had for a few years. I love pairing black and white with burgundy in fall (and other colors in other seasons). The cardigan you will have seen before as it is one of my most favorite items. The same goes for the shoes. Even after breaking them in they still hurt if I wear them for more than a day, but they go so well with any outfit that I find it worth it every step of the way. Staples: the burgundy cardigan, any skater dress, burgundy brogues.

Black blouse with gold buttons (Forever 21)
Camel faux suede a-line skirt with button down front (H&M)Black tights (Primark)
Black fringe bag (H&M)
Black ankle boots with pointed toe (H&M)

I bought the main piece of this outfit during the summer sale, but I already knew at the time that it would be a great piece for fall. The suede a-line skirt is hot this season and I am glad I got it on the cheap a few months early. For summer, I styled this up with a crochet crop top. For fall I have loved pairing it with black, my favorite being this black chiffon blouse. The black booties with the black tights is a classic trick I like to add to many of my outfits: it makes me look taller and my legs look slimmer. Fall staples in this outfit: the tights (they are in 4 out of 5 outfits afterall), the a-line skirt and the blouse.

Navy corduroy pants (H&M)
Black T-shirt (Forever 21)
Mustard yellow knit cardigan (Vero Moda)
Black 1461 Dr Marten’s (Office)

I had to put some navy and mustard into this lookbook too and I did by combining them into one outfit. I am not sure how much you can see, but the pants I am wearing are a navy corduroy pant that I love wearing for fall and winter as they are soft and a lot warmer than any pair of jeans I own. The yellow cardigan is an instant eye catcher and again super soft and warm. It is one of my fall staples, together with my trusty Dr. Marten’s which are my go to fall/ winter shoe.

What are your fall staples?

  1. […] Suede is everywhere right now! It fits right into that whole boho chic vibe that is going on right now. From shoes, jackets, skirts and even shirts: a (faux) suede item is something not to be missed out on for fall 2015. I only own one piece that fits this trend and that is the skirt I showed you in last week’s fall lookbook. […]

  2. […] 4 out of 5 of my favorite dresses are in fact skater dresses, as you could see in this blog post. This type of dress works best as a day dress, but there are skater dresses that can look quite festive and chique. The red dress I am wearing in this lookbook is quite a good example of how you can dress up a skater dress. But I also proved how easily you can dress them down for a much more casual look in one of my more recent fall staples lookbook. […]

  3. […] On Mondays I of course head out for work. For this first day after the weekend, I decided to go with a faux leather skirt (Forever 21), a red cardigan (Urban Outfitters) and a grey t-shirt (Monki). I featured the skirt & shirt in my most recent fashion haul. The shoes I am wearing in this picture are my Dr. Marten’s, but that’s not the pair I wore at work. What I usually do when I feel an outfit calls for heels, is that I will wear a comfy pair of shoes to get to work and change my shoes once I am there. The shoes I wore at work are the black booties I am wearing in the fourth outfit in this fall 2015 lookbook. […]
