NYX Liquid Suede liquid lipsticks

Alas, I did not make it into the Top 20 of the Dutch NYX Face Awards, but that doesn’t mean I cannot continue enjoying the make up brand. One thing NYX has been acing lately are lip products. And since liquid lipsticks are all the rage, NYX has two different lines of them now. While in London, I spotted the Liquid Suede liquid lipsticks and I picked up three shades to try. Today I’ll be reviewing them for you.

The official name of these are the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks. At Boots these retails for 6.50 pounds. In The Netherlands, you can buy these from Douglas for a whopping €13.95. That is almost twice as much! Still they may very well be worth the money, because at that price range they are still some of the most affordable liquid lipsticks out there.

As you can see I opted for two basic shades: a light, baby pink and a dark red. I decided to go for one oddball shade. I mean, how wearable could a dark grey possibly be? So I decided to take the plunge and bought the most out there shade in the line. I definitely do not own a dark grey lipstick of any sort, so I was curious to try it. One thing I instantly liked about these is that the tube has the shade of the product: so much easier to find the shade you need! I love how NYX have thought that through.

The packaging itself is otherwise straightforward. The product comes in a sleek, plastic tube. It is a tad chubby and inside you will find a simple doe foot applicator, just like a lipgloss. But this of course, is not a lipgloss, but a cream lipstick. Since it is described as a cream lipstick I hope they are easy to apply, yet that they dry down like a liquid lipstick and can wear for hours. I also hope they have a matte finish, but without drying out my lips too much.

When looking at the product, you can see it is definitely more of a cream. It has thicker consistency than the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks, yet a much thinner consistency than the Anastasia Beverly Hills ones. Where the Kat Von D texture is so thin, you barely notice it going on, the Anastasia one is very moussy. The NYX one is somewhere right in between.

Tea & Cookies, Cherry Skies, Stone Fox

On to the colors. Tea & Cookies is a pale baby pink shade with a cool undertone. It went on opaque in one swipe, despite the light color. Cherry Skies is a deep blood red that has insane pigmentation. Stone Fox was a bit of a led down for me. Already when swatched I felt this didn’t look grey, but had a blueish-green tint to it. It went on opaque though and perhaps could be cool wearing over a black base color.

Tea & Cookies

Swatched on my lips you can clearly see how light and bright Tea & Cookies is. It would be a great shade to wear with a heavier eyelook or with a smokey eye. Especially full face, you can clearly see how white based this is, so this won’t be for everyone. But if you’re fair like me, this can be a pretty every day shade with a bit more of a statement to it.

Stone Fox

Stone Fox is a strange shade. I am not sure what to make of it. I feel it makes me look even paler than I already am. But with a minimal eye look like I am wearing in this picture it could work if I’d wear a different shirt. This truly is a statement lipstick. One that I feel would only work if the rest of the overall look is kept to a downright minimum, so no plaid shirts! Though I do feel that the greenish-blueish hue this gets on my lips is all but flattering.

NYX Liquid Suede lipsticks in Cherry Skies

Cherry Skies

My favorite of the three has to be Cherry Skies. With my blonde hair and brown eyes, reds just look best on me I feel. On me, this dark cherry red shade looks like a darker version of a classic red. In short: it’s a home run! To show you how these wear, I decided to add in a picture of what this looked like after a good 8 hours of wear without touching up. As you can see it bled a little into the lines around my lips, but a good deal is still left on my lips and on the areas where it disappears an intense stain is left.

Wear time on these is quite decent: a good 6 – 8 hours this still looks okay from a distance. The feeling on the lips is comfortable, though they do stay a little bit tacky even after having dried down. There is also a fair bit of transfer when you eat/ drink something. So be careful when wearing the darker shades that you don’t smear them everywhere. In terms of comfort, I was surprised. Most liquid lipsticks dry out my lips like there is no tomorrow, but these didn’t dry out my lips too much.

Yes, all in all, I truly like the NYX Liquid Lipsticks. I will definitely be reaching for Tea & Cookies and Cherry Skies more often. Stone Fox will probably end up in a drawer as it is not entirely work appropriate, but since I like playing around with make up, I would love to see what this would look like with different looks. In fact, I love these so much, that I ordered a different shade that was sold out when I purchased these ones. This product gets a big thumbs up!

What is the strangest color lipstick you own?
