Best in Music (2016)

Part 2 of my end of year favorites will be devoted to music. I am still a big music buff and when it comes to hobbies it’s the one that has been with me the longest. So for me it is only natural to wrap up the year looking back not only on what beauty and make up products worked for me, but also what music I liked the most. Today I am sharing 5 albums and 15 songs with you that I truly enjoyed throughout 2016.

Albums

Before we get into the songs, I thought I’d tell you which albums I have enjoyed most. Unfortunately for me, many of the year’s music releases were a bit underwhelming. We started off the year with some incredible releases, but I either forgot about them around halfway through the year and whatever else was released was a little lackluster to me. I also didn’t have a whole lot of time to listen to music as I have been focusing more on reading books and I have found that really nicked into the amount of time I consciously listen to music. Despite all that, I managed to find 5 albums that I truly enjoyed this year.

1.) DIIV – Is the Is Are – New York shoe gazers DIIV finally released album number 2! I had tickets to see them in April, but their European tour got cancelled so I still have to see these guys live. This album was released right at the beginning of the year and it has stuck with me since.

2.) Fews – Means – Psychedelic rockers Fews finally released their debut album this year. Released in May I had it on repeat pretty much all summer. So much so that the lead single from this album is also to be found in my 15 favorite songs of 2016.

3.) James Vincent McMorrow – We Move – Who knew James Vincent McMorrow released his third album? I sure didn’t. Not until I found it in my local record store. After a so-s0 second album that fused much more electronic music into his style, this third album manages the balance between electro and acoustic much better.

4.) Stephen – Sincerely – This is an artist you probably haven’t heard of. Stephen is an artist who I discovered at the tail end of 2015 through some of the music Youtube channels I follow. His mix of rock, singer-songwriter and electro/ hiphop makes for an intriguing sound that had me wanting for more. You can download as he released his album for free, click here to do so.

5.) Two Door Cinema Club – Gameshow – After a bit of a hiatus TDCC is back! I never was a huge fan of their music until I saw them live at Rock Werchter a few years ago. When I heard this album is a bit of a departure of their old sound I was interested enough to give it a go and I have loved it ever since.

Songs

And then for my favorite songs of 2016, there is quite the mix again. I did try not to double up any songs from the albums I also listed above, save for the song by Fews, because that was on repeat for a solid month. There is also my favorite summer sing-a-long song by Dua Lipa as well as some older tracks that I only started listening to this past year. Since music is best enjoyed when you listen to it, I am going to stop rambling and let you give these tracks a listen instead.

Jagwar Ma – Slipping

Fews – Ill

Honne – Warm on a Cold Night

Air Controller – This is Love

Dua Lipa – Be The One

Stephen – Crossfire

Lo Air – Day & Night (Original Mix)

Day Wave – Drag

Traces – Share Your Love

Animal Collective – Natural Selection

Bishop – River

Dropout – You Always Win

Adventure Club – Limitless

Eric Prydz – Generate

Wet – Deadwater

What are your 2016 music favorites?
