Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation

Lately I have found myself on a major foundation kick. I’ve been trying new releases left and right. Moreover, where I normally opt for a light coverage foundation, I have also been dabbling with full coverage ones. Another type of foundation I’ve been trying out is the matte foundation. So many people swear by those and I just wanted to see what the fuss was all about. When I saw that Maybelline finally launched their Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation in The Netherlands, I decided to try it and see what I think.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation 110 Porcelain

I tried the original Fit Me foundation years ago, but didn’t like it. The reason being that it caused an allergic reaction and hence it didn’t work out too well for me. My skin has improved greatly this past year though and I would be curious to try it again to see if it would still have the same effect. But I thought I’d try something new first. At €9.99 the Maybelline Matte & Poreless foundation is a very affordable drugstore foundation and comes in €5 cheaper than the original Fit Me.

The Packaging

What I like about this product is that it comes in a squeezy tube. So much easier than a glass bottle with a pump! It is lighter and less fragile, which means it is easier to travel with. It is also not too bulky which means it is easy to store. The fact that you squeeze out the product, also makes for a hygienic application that is easy to dose. All in all, we’re off to a good start.

Additionally, the tube I comes sealed as well. So it is easy to check in stores whether someone has already opened it. In any case it is a fail safe way of ensuring you’re truly buying a fresh tube. A tube contains 30 ml of product which is standard for a foundation.

The Product

This product is formulated for normal to oily skin. I have dry/ dehydrated, combination skin so I was a bit hesitant at first. It should blur imperfections, minimize pores and match flawlessly with your skin. The ingredients on this product are a long lists of chemicals, but I never truly figured out what my skin reacted to, so each foundation purchase always feels like a gamble.

The texture of this is surprisingly liquid for a matte foundation aimed at normal to oily skin. I had expected this to be drier and less emollient. When you squeeze out one drop, you will also find that it goes a long way. Coverage is good, I’d say medium and buildable to more if you feel you need more. One thing I noticed immediately is how easy it was to blend this foundation. Despite the claims that this is a matte foundation, it doesn’t look cakey and keeps a certain amount of luminosity.

The Swatch

Before – Half/ Half – Full Face

I tested this out on a good skin day. I don’t get too many blemishes and don’t suffer from too much texture unless you look at my skin up close. The only reason why I like to cover things up is the amount of redness in my face. In short, I look for a foundation that evens out my skin tone and if it can hide that red splodge above my eyebrow all the better.

In applying this foundation to the face I was indeed pleasantly surprised. You can barely see a difference between the two halves of my face because it blended in so smoothly and just looked like skin. It does a good job of covering up most of the redness, but I did apply concealer to cover any discoloration and redness that was still visible.

Wear time on this was great. It lasted well all day and definitely survives a work day. It didn’t bunch up or crease on itself which I think is mostly due to the fact that it is such a lightweight formula. You only need a little bit to cover your entire face and while it doesn’t cover everything, I loved how natural this foundation looked. The shade match was also spot on for me and they even do one shade that is lighter.

The Conclusion

My verdict? The Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation is one of the best drugstore foundations I’ve tried. This has definitely beat the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation from its top spot. For years that has been my favorite drugstore foundation, but this Maybelline one has one thing that the Bourjois doesn’t have: the perfect shade. Moreover, it has a lovely texture, easy application and natural look. In short, it has everything I am looking for in a great everyday foundation.
