Lush Seanik shampoo bar

Lately I have been totally into Lush shampoo bars. It all started when I started using a new shampoo and conditioner set that had these huge 500 ML bottles. I ended up hating the shampoo: it would not foam up, nor do anything for my hair, not even clean it in the least bit. So I tossed it. Luckily I still had a Lush shampoo bar in my hair stash and started using that. I’ve been hooked ever since and bought a new one to try when my old one ran out.

Lush Seanik shampoo bar

What is special about shampoo bar is that they are a solid shampoo. They therefore require no plastic packaging and thus are much better for the environment. Depending on the bar you get, these can last you quite a while, while others crumble more easily and therefore need replacing a lot more quickly. Seanik shampoo bar retails for €8.95.

The Product

Seanik is a seaweed and seasalt based shampoo that adds volume to the hair and also includes lemon for a shiny do. A great combination if you have dry hair like mine, but can use a bit more volume. There are two different types of seaweed in this bar as well as lemon oil. To scent the bar essential oils such as mimosa, jasmine and orange flower have been used.

This is the ingredient list:

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Irish Moss Gel, Perfume, Nori Seaweed, Fine Sea Salt, Lemon Oil, Mimosa Absolute, Orange Flower Absolute, Jasmine Absolute, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, *Limonene, Colour 42090

The Packaging

The bar itself comes packaged in a paper bag when you buy it. However Lush also sells tins that will help you to store this product. You can buy special shampoo bar tins, but I simply reused one of my massage bar tins which also gets the job done. I got this for free with purchase back in the day when I got two massage bars. I simply clean it after use and have been reusing it ever since.

Does it work? And how?

What I look for in a shampoo is a product that cleanses my hair easily without stripping it entirely. I feel that this is what this product does. I bought it because I was intrigued with its promise of added volume as my hair has the notorious tendency to simply go limp after washing it. With this shampoo, my hair looks shiny, it is easy to style and mostly always looks great. It even is pliable after a strenuous workout after applying lots of dry shampoo.

This shampoo suds up quite nicely. It is definitely more foamy in your hair than it is in this short demonstration. The way this works is easy. You wet your hair, rub the bar on and through your hair and then put it aside. Then you simply rub the product into the hair while massaging it into your scalp and rinse. Voilá! You’ve washed your hair.

One thing I have to point out is that this product is a tad difficult to store. You have to dry it after every use and avoid getting it wet completely. This will cause the product to mold, crumble or go soft, which makes it no longer usable. So it does require a bit more effort, but it’s an effort well worth my time.

The Conclusion

Yes! Lush’ Seanik shampoo bar is one of my favorite shampoos in a long time. And that says a lot because I’ve been using the same ones on and off for years now. I love having added this to my routine and it is definitely a product I will repurchase once this runs out.

Have you ever tried a Lush shampoo bar before?

  1. I have one shampoo bar from them. I don’t remember the name since I bought it two years ago. Tbh, I hate it. Every now and then I give it a go but after the wash I’m like why can’t I just throw the piece away. For me it’s an effort to create enough foam to get my all hair covered. It has so soft foam that it kind of disappears under the touch. After the washing my hair doesn’t feel clean and is just dry as hay. I’m glad it works for you tho 😊

    • I had one before that simply disintegrated after a few uses. So not all of them are great. But I love this one! Have been using it since last November and still going strong.

  2. I tried their Godiva shampoo bar a long time ago and I really liked it! Cleaned my hair very well and it smelled amazing. But I agree with what you said, it’s difficult to store. Also, toward the end, the bar got very gummy and slimy even when I kept it dry.

  3. I tried one of their bars a year or two ago. I had to make sure I always followed up with conditioner when I used it because it was pretty drying. I didn’t hate it though & I would probably try another one. This particular one just wasn’t exactly what I needed.

    • I always use conditioner anyway, so that isn’t much of a difference for me. I feel they’ve changed up their line quite a bit since I tried my first one, so perhaps there is something there for you now?
