Blogger recognition award

Not one but TWO lovely ladies awarded me with the Blogger Recognition Award in recent weeks, which means I have to do a post on this. I always appreciate it if people enjoy reading my blog and so I’m all for spreading that love.

History of Floating in Dreams

This blog was started on a complete whim. A whim that has lasted more than 6 years already! I didn’t start this blog with a plan, I just started one. Thinking I wouldn’t be able to keep it going for very long, as I’m an absolute nightmare when it comes to things like keeping diaries and all that, I embarked on a 30 day blog challenge right at the beginning. That gave me a taste for daily blogging and I haven’t looked back since.

For nearly 4 years I blogged, but without any rhyme or reason to it. I implemented my blogging schedule not until 2014 and that’s when I became a bit more systematic about it which of course resulted into more and more visitors. I’m not in it for the numbers, but to see how many people are reading this space on a daily basis is sometimes mind blowing, even though I’m only a small time blogger. Your attention is greatly appreciated.

Advice to new bloggers

My first piece of advise is to decided what kind of blogger you would like to be. I never set out to be a career blogger. I didn’t aim to grow my audience and in a way I still don’t. Just write what you love about and worry about professionalizing later. Find the fun first and decide what your blog is going to be like by trial and error before pinning yourself down on one particular area. For instance, my blog isn’t about just one topic as that would bore me to death. Makes for a slower growth of visitors, but I am making the blog I would want to read and that has always been my aim.

Secondly, I think you should stay true to yourself. Make the content you want to make, not because you feel you have to make it. Whether it is because a particular tag is popular right now, or because a brand has invited you to write about their products, you should only create the content you truly believe in. I know what scores on Youtube as my viewer numbers show that quite clearly, but I also aim to be consistent in my content and you cannot continuously keep on creating epic content previewing new collections without going poor or becoming a brand spokesperson. So I like spreading things out and in a way I’m still figuring out what works and what doesn’t. Sometimes you think a post will score big and then it doesn’t, while a post you think little of has people flocking to your space on the WWW.

I nominate the following bloggers

Give these ladies some love if you don’t know them already and visit their blogs!

Enjoy the rest of your day!
