The Body Shop Vitamin C Energising Face Spritz

I maintain quite an elaborate skincare routine, but it is one that works quite well. One item that I cannot see quitting any time soon is a more recent discovery: The Body Shop’s Vitamin C Energising Face Spritz. This face mist is not one to set your make up with, but definitely a skincare product. Here’s why I love it.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Energising Face Spritz

This face mist retails for €18 and is part of the Vitamin C range. The Vitamin C line was developed to combat dull looking skin. It is a pretty intense line and it is one that is not recommended if you have sensitive skin. Since my skin isn’t only sensitive but also quite dull and lackluster, I decided to give it a whirl. My skin had fared well after taking a gamble on the Vitamin C Microdermabrasion, so I thought: why not?

The Packaging

As can be expected from a face mist, this spritz comes in a spray bottle. The nozzle on this is not very refined and the mist you get is quite ‘thick’. You can feel actual droplets hitting your face quite well. I tried taking a picture of the actual spray you get, but unfortunately my camera couldn’t pick up on it.

The Body Shop promises that this product will make your skin look more radiant and hydrated. It should revitalize your skin and give a natural glow to the skin. It was the hydrating aspect as well as the glow aspect of this product that sucked me in originally. That and the smell, because this has a lovely zesty citrus smell.

The Ingredients

Aqua, Butylene Glycol, Polysorbate 20, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Benzoate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Sodium Citrate, Sodium Gluconate, Parfum, Disodium EDTA, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Linalool, Limonene, Citric Acid, Benzyl Benzoate, Myrciaria Dubia Fruit Extract, Hexyl Cinnamal

The ingredient list isn’t as short as I had expected it to be. Water is high up on the list, as are many other emolients and glycerine. The actual working ingredients aren’t listed until the second half of the list of ingredients. A tad disappointing and that lovely smell I mentioned? That is probably due to the fairly large amount of perfume. It is now clear why this isn’t the best if you have very sensitive skin.

The Product

before – freshly spritzed – after

I apply this to my face after cleansing but before moisturizing. I like how it sort of preps my skin for whatever comes next. I’m not sure whether it’s true, but I feel as if my moisturizer works better when I use this before it.

I have been using this for nearly a year and my bottle is only about to run out just now and better yet: it hasn’t caused any break outs or allergic reactions. My skin looks a little bit more red around my nose, but it also looks more plump and radiant after using this.

The product is very wet, which is why you should not use this over make up. You can actually feel this running down your face, so this is not a make up setting spray. However, you can use this to refresh your face throughout the day if it is hot and your are not wearing much make up at all.

The Conclusion

As I mentioned in the introduction: I love The Body Shop’s Vitamin C facial spray. It may be too intense for you as many of the ‘good’ ingredients aren’t very prominent on the ingredient list. It works for me however as it does what I want and need it to do. I love the refreshing smell and it is like an instant ‘wake me up’ moment in the morning.
