Nude lipsticks are the hardest shade to get right. Not only are there many different options, making them fit with your undertone, lip color and eye look can be a challenge. Over the years, I’ve found a few nude lipsticks that I love. And surprisingly perhaps: none of them are too nude. By that I mean that all of these have a good amount of color to them.
My favorite nude lipsticks
What I mean by that is that nudes only work on me if they aren’t too pale and pack a decent amount of punch. I have very pigmented lips myself and true nude lipsticks simply don’t work on me because of that. My natural lip color will simply shine through and that is not a good look. I have picked 5 favorites: 1 drugstore and 4 high end options. Sadly, it’s the high end brands that really do the best shades for me.
Milani Matte Darling
I bought this lipstick a few years ago in the States. It’s a very pinky peach that goes on opaque. As the name suggests this is a matte formula. Mostly I prefer my nudes to not be matte but for this one it works. I love how easily this glides on and it works with many different looks. I am wearing it in this blog post.
Syrup is one of the best nudes in my opinion. It is more mauve/ plum than Matte Darling and has a lustre finish. This means that it is quite sheer and also shiny. That is my favorite way of wearing nudes as they can look weird if they are too opaque or matte. I wear this shade whenever I don’t know what to wear. You can see it on in this blog post.
Estee Lauder Impulsive
My most worn nude lipstick is this Pure Color Envy lipstick by Estee Lauder. I knew I wanted to own one of these lipsticks the minute they launched, but I wasn’t sure on the shade. This soft pink tone ended up being the one after much umming and arring. It has more coverage than Syrup, but also has a creamy finish. It lasts a good amount of time on the lips and you can see it on here.
The most intense nude lipstick in my collection is Bite’s Rhubarb, which I have yet to review on my blog. This is part of their Amuse Bouche line, which has some of the most comfortable lipstick formula on the planet. It stays put nearly all day and smells of pink lemonade! Rhubarb is a darker nude and a pink with a brown undertone. There are no pictures of me wearing this stunner just yet.
Urban Decay Backtalk
A nude that is much coveted these days is Urban Decay’s Backtalk. It is a purple toned pink that falls in their Comfort Matte range. This means this is another matte nude lipstick, but this matte formula is unique in that it is not too drying. As the name suggests this feels creamy on the lips and is in fact very comfortable to wear. The Urban Decay Vice lipsticks are some of the longest wearing lipsticks in my collection and this is no exception. You can see me wearing Backtalk in this review.
Matte Darling – Syrup – Impulsive – Rhubarb – Backtalk
As I promised Rhubarb is the most intense shade here and many people will not consider this a nude. However on me it most definitely is! As you can see Syrup and Impulsive have a clear shin to it as well, which makes them easy to wear, but also gives them less wear time. Matte Darling is a good affordable option, but I have yet to find a good drugstore nude.
I love a good nude lipstick. Despite the tricky search for the perfect match (it’s an ongoing process let me tell you), it is a search that is very rewarding. Nude lipstick go with nearly every look you make and if they are on the sheerer side like Syrup, then they are also easy to apply on the go without a mirror. They are simply a staple that you cannot miss out on.
