How I wear mom jeans

Mom jeans: you either love them or hate them. I was in the I’m not so sure camp for a while there, but then last year I caved and bought a pair. Yet still, I wasn’t entirely sure how to style them. So to help myself and hopefully you as well, I decided to throw some outfits together for some much needed fashion inspiration.

ASOS Farleigh jeans in heather grey

The star of today’s show is the ASOS Farleigh jeans. Not sure how, but these jeans are suddenly IT and I just happened to buy mine before the hype broke loose. It was my first pair of mom jeans and now also own two from Topshop. I like how mom jeans have a high waist and a fitted, though not a skinny, and loose, but not too baggy fit.

Boyish

T-shirt | H&M
Shoes | Converse

You know I like my boyish looks and what better way then to pair it with a stripy tee and matching sneakers? This t-shirt is slightly cropped which makes it fit nicely with the jeans: it would show off a bit of mid riff, even with a normal high rise, but with mom jeans, this works very well.

Cozy

Shirt | H&M
Cardigan | Urban Outfitters
Shoes | Asos

Cardigans are my jam, yes even year round: on a cold and dreary summer day, I will still bust out the cardigan to keep warm. Versatile and easy to throw on, I simply think it is a good standard to have. I paired the jeans here with a longer cardigan, a monochrome t-shirt and some fun printed shoes to keep things from getting boring.

90s vibe

Sweater | H&M
Shoes | Asos

If you wish to go back to the era when mom jeans were the actual rage (the 80s and 90s come to mind) a good mockneck in a rust colored style cannot be missing here. I like the baggy fit of this and the batwing sleeves. Since the jeans are a light grey, I like the clash of the cool and warm tones of the outfit, which I think gives it a bit more edge.

Retro

Blouse | Urban Outfitters
Shoes | Dr. Marten’s

Vintage inspired outfits are another one of my favorite ways to dress. Here I created a very casual outfit with a boxy fit blouse and some brogues. I think the items play up the jeans nicely, as they pair well together color wise, but also because of the shape this creates. You could tuck in the blouse and singe in your waist with a belt for a more structured look too.

Casual/ chic

Blouse | H&M
Shoes | Asos

Mom jeans are also easy to dress up. With this outfit, I would roll up the legs of the jeans a little to show some more ankle and to make the jeans more tapered and fitted looking. The blouse then gives it a bit more je-ne-sais-quoi, while the heels add some elegance & style. Paired with simple makeup and a bold, red lip and your hair up in a bun, this will be one killer look to wear.
