MUA Fire Vixen eyeshadow palette

Warm eyeshadow palettes are everywhere these days and that means the drugstore cannot be far behind to hop onto the band wagon. MUA is the first affordable brand that truly has tried nailing a super warm toned eyeshadow palette. Meet Fire Vixen: the warm toned eyeshadow palette of your dreams, if you love your oranges and reds. And is that a bit of Huda Beauty’s Rose Gold palette inspiration I am seeing there? Time to put it to the test!

Now MUA is not the first affordable makeup brand that has come out with a warm toned palette. In fact, the ever popular Morphe 35O is quite possibly what started this trend to begin with and that doesn’t exactly break the bank at €25 a pop. MUAs version is quite possibly the cheapest brand to jump onto the trend though. At a mere €6.99, this palette costs even just a fraction of the price of a Morphe palette.

The Packaging

The packaging is nothing to write home about. MUA palettes are affordable, but that also gives you some fuss free, simple packaging that doesn’t feel like it has the best of qualities. What it does have is a slim, sleek design. No space is wasted on useless brushes or mirrors you don’t use. The only downside to such cost saving methods: these shadows do not even have names.

The Palette

Looking at the palettes you can see the sheer array of warm tones this has. This has a red, a copper, some peach, some gold and lots of warm toned matte browns to play with. There are two very random greys, which I feel are quite out of place, but other than that you get 15 warm toned shadows: 9 matte and 6 shimmers, 3 of which a few are pretty much metallic.

The Shades

For the first block, I zoomed into the left side of the palette and the first 9 shades. This side includes a matte cream color which is a good brow bone highlight. There is also a stunning light shimmer in the bottom left corner that makes for an excellent inner corner highlight. The other three shimmers differ in intensity: two of them have some intense shine, one is more of a satin, almost matte shade. The mattes here are very workable and easy to use. There is a good transition shade and two shades that could either work in the crease or the outer V.

The 6 shades in the second half of the palette are what gives this palette its unique touch. There are two super intense metallic shimmer, a matte red and two shades that are excellent for blending, crease work and the lower lash line. The only thing this palette is missing is an intense dark brown or possibly a black. The most intense shades in the palette are also quite bright or shimmery, which instantly takes away some of the versatility of the palette. There is simply no deeper shade to really create some depth and definition to a look.

The Swatches

Swatched you can clearly see the quality of these shades. This palette has some stunning pigmentation. Some of the shades are a little bit powdery and require some building up to get to full intensity. This is especially the case for some of the shimmers. I find that I really have to dig into those to get them to translate as intensely onto the eyes. But overall, these shades are intense, easy to blend and they stay well on the eye.

The Application

Look 1

To prove that these shadows are easy to work with, I have created 3 different looks. This is the vampiest of the three. I focused mostly on the reds and coppers on the right side of the palette to create this. I used the peachy shade in the center of the palette to create some shine on the lid. For a bit of definition, I added a dark brown eyeliner to my waterline and tightline. That way, the reds do not make it look like you have an eye disease. This first look is also my personal fave by the way.

Look 2

For look number 2, I wanted to focus more on the oranges in the palette in the bottom left half of the palette. While pretty, it is a little softer than the first one. I again went with that center peachy shade and a dark brown liner to finish off the look. That middle peachy shade truly gives this palette some life: I find it works well with every single shade in the palette.

Where I used all the browns to create the first look, I incorporate the two greys in this look and I have to say I am quite pleased with how it played out. I used the light grey to blend out the crease and the dark grey for some definition in the outer V. While they may not be an obvious choice to combine with all the warm tones here, I found they worked surprisingly well with the other shades in the palette.

Look 3

For my third and final look, I wanted to create something more wearable: a daily makeup look. I wore this to work 5 days straight. That is how much I loved this look. I used the light shimmer in the top right part of the palette and the matte to the right of it and that’s it. I put the shimmer in the bottom left corner in my inner corner and the matte in the top left on my brow bone and that’s it. This is a quick and easy look that I think is great if you’re in a hurry or like going for something more natural.

Conclusion

The MUA Fire Vixen eyeshadow palette has truly surprised me. For the price of €6.99 you receive a 15 pan eyeshadow palette that works well and has some unique colors to offer that you won’t find often in a drugstore offering. If you like trying out some warm tones, but don’t know whether they will suit you, or if you simply don’t feel like shelling out the 50+ euros for an Urban Decay or Huda Beauty palette, than this is definitely a good palette to try out first.

  1. I haven’t had much luck with MUA eyeshadows, so this was surprising.. Great swatches and the looks came out beautifully! Have you worn this shadow all day? How do you find it lasts?

    • Yes I have worn several looks all day. I tend to try palettes out for at least a week or 2 before I review them. I do use the Milani primer and a Mac paint pot underneath though.

  2. I went today in a trip and I entered the a drugstore and I was randomly looking at some affordable eyeshadow palettes. This one was placed close to the check out and immediately caught my eye, because I was missing a palette with warm tones. This is why I like the packaging of it. Even though it is not quite fancy it allows me to look at the shades it has.

    • I love how slim this is! So easy for travel and when it smashes it’s not a big deal, because it didn’t cost that much. I prefer using palettes like this on trips as I don’t mind it as much if anything happens to them.
