Maybelline Superstay foundation

Happy New Year! It’s January 1st, which means I’m back for a new year filled with blogs on makeup, lifestyle and fashion. It was good to have a bit of a break last week, but I’m back in full swing with a brand new review of a brand new product. Maybelline just released their new Super Stay 24 H Full Coverage foundation and I am reviewing it for you today. If that isn’t a good start to the new year, then I don’t know what is! Here we go! maybelline superstay foundation 20 cameo full coverage review swatch

Maybelline Superstay 24 H Full Coverage Foundation 20 Cameo

It seems to be raining foundation releases in the drugstore this past month so I had to try quite a few and this is the first one in the series. At €14.99 this foundation is one that is in line with many drugstore foundation prices. However, Maybelline is on sale all the time, so I would hold out if I were you and save a few bucks while you can.

The Packaging

The new Superstay foundation comes in a glass jar with a pump. Unfortunately only 6 shades are available and none of them run very light nor very dark. I bought 20 Cameo, which is not the last shade in the range, but it was the one that swatched lightest on my hand in the store. There is also 10 Ivory and there seem to be lighter shades available internationally, but not in the Dutch drugstore.

The Swatch

20 Cameo is a very pink toned foundation, which is I why I went with this over 10 Ivory: that was very yellow and yellow foundation do no always suit me very well. Since this promises to be full coverage, I knew I would run the risk of looking sick if it looked too yellow, so I went with the pink undertone instead.

The consistency of this foundation is liquid, but it is thick: it is almost a cream, but not quite. This is especially noticeable when you start blending this in. It blends in okay enough, but you can feel that this is a thicker foundation right away. I personally don’t mind that and I’ve been wanting to try more full coverage foundations and this really fits that bill.

The Coverage

In terms of coverage, I think this is indeed a full coverage foundation. It nicely covers all of my redness and I have been liking how this blends into my skin. Since it has a thicker consistency, I do find you have to be careful with blending the edges as this can leave a very clear foundation line. So especially around my hairline, jawline and near my ears, I have to put in a little bit more effort to blend this in. However, with my Primark blending sponge, I get a near flawless application and I would highly recommend applying this foundation with a damp sponge to sheer it out some and help it blend.

The Shade Match

When it comes to drugstore foundation, the question is always: Will it match? And the answer is: almost. This is a touch too dark for my skin tone, as you can clearly see in this picture here. I can blend it down my neck just fine, but especially around my ear, I was unable to get a very flawless blend. I do have to say that this is before applying bronzer and that is a step I never skip, because I need to give my skin that little pick me up to avoid looking too pale. So this is something I can remedy with a bit of bronzer.

The Lasting Power

The Maybelline Superstay foundation promises 24 H wear, which is not what I’m looking for per se, but I like a foundation that can stay on for around 12 H or so. Above, you can see my full face of makeup freshly applied on the left. On the right is my face 12+ hrs later, right before going to bed. As you can see, the foundation held up very well. Only on my skin and nose, which are my notorious trouble areas, the foundation shows some wear and tear. This definitely lives up to the longwear claims.

The Conclusion

I would recommend the Maybelline Superstay foundation to you if you are looking for a foundation that is longwearing and if you can find a shade that matches you. Personally, I can make this shade work for me, but I’d have preferred it if it were a touch lighter. This has however gone into my daily makeup routine because I love how long this wears: it doesn’t crease, hardly emphasizes dry patches and it doesn’t look cakey at the end of the day.

What drugstore foundation are you looking forward to trying?

  1. […] Maybelline Superstay 24 H Full Coverage Foundation – A new month means a new foundation. I change foundations regularly. I like a different look and coverage depending on how tired I am, the weather and what I am up to that time period. Since my skin needed a pick me up after the move in November, I was loving the It Cosmetics CC Cream that month. But then the drugstore launched 3 new foundations in a very short time span. I tried the Maybelline Superstay most and wore it all day to my work’s Christmas party and it stayed put very well. I reviewed it here. […]
