Tarte Tartelette Toasted eyeshadow palette

Eyeshadow palettes: my one true makeup love. And I have been acquiring a few again. I plan to review them all and one of those new additions to my makeup collection is Tarte’s Tartelette Toasted eyeshadow palette. Everyone went crazy for warm toned shadows in 2017 and Tarte was a little bit late to hop on the bandwagon. However, the Tartelette palettes are some of their most popular and the In Bloom version is one of my all time favorite palettes. Will I love Toasted just as much?tarte tartelette toasted eyeshadow palette review swatch

Tartelette Toasted is available from Sephora.com and retails for $46. If you’re in Europe, this is instantly a bit more expensive as the duties and shipping costs up the price point. However, there are a few retailers in Europe that sell it, but it is harder to get and they may not sell the full range of Tarte products.

The Packaging

The packaging of the Tartelette palettes is outstanding: a handy size with a large mirror in the lid that is easy to carry. Toasted has a flame like design on the front. It almost looks like it’s on fire. Inside, there are 12 different shades that go very well with the orange, black, brown and gold packaging.

The Shades

Out of the 12 shades there are 7 mattes, 3 shimmers, one matte with glitter and one glitter shade. As you can see the palette is very much a gold/ orange/ brown toned palette. Not as red as Urban Decay’s Naked Heat and not as orange as a Morphe 35O. The shades are a bit more wearable and neutral, which is why this is quite possibly one of the best warm toned palettes out there.

The Swatches

And that neutral undertone can easily be seen in the swatches. Yes it’s warm, but it is a very wearable warm toned palette. The warmest tones are housed in the middle and the other shades are more golden and brown. As you can see, pigmentation is great. One swipe of a finger gives you this result. The dark matte brown is a great staple and there are some good transition shades.

There are two shades that are a bit difficult to swatch and use. The matte with glitter called crackle doesn’t show any glitter as it falls out quite quickly. It is difficult to make it show up even when you try packing it on. The other is candle with has quite a loose texture and is difficult to pack on. With a finger or in the inner corner it is a great shade though.

The Application

Look 1:
Lid | Flame
Crease | Cozy
Blend shade | Latte
Brow bone | Sunrise
Lower Lash line | Warmth
Inner corner | Sunset

For my first look I am going super warm. I focused on using the middle row mostly. With these super warm looks, while they make my eyes look more brown, I also feel they make me look quite pasty, so I try to go in with a bit of eyeliner to make my eyes stand out more. That way, I feel a look like this pops more and really adds that sultry aspect to it that makes these looks work.

Look 2:
Lid | Sunset with a bit of candle on top
Crease | Warmth
Blend | Cashmere
Lower lash line | Crackle
Outer V | Crackle

This look has to be my favorite. It is warm, but has a very day time/ wearable look to it. This will be perfect to wear to the office or school. I love how this palette blends: these shadows pretty much blend themselves and a look like this can be whipped up in a matter of minutes.

Look 3:
Lid | Simmer
Crease | Cozy
Lower lash line | Fireside
Brow bone | S’more

I had to of course include that deep deep dark brown. It is a super intense shade. This will be perfect as eyeliner, but I decided to go with a super smokey lower lash instead. This is a bit more intense, but still wearable. Simmer was the only shade I felt a bit meh about after using it. It’s pretty, but it doesn’t pack enough of a punch for me.

The Conclusion

So while some of the shades in the Tarte Tartelette Toasted eyeshadow palette may seem a bit lackluster or difficult to work with, it is one of the best warm toned palettes if you like warm tones, but are not into straight up reds and oranges. This will be able to tickle that spot, but it’s nothing too crazy or intense. If you want, you can go warm smokey with this, or super neutral. That is what makes this palette great. It is versatile and easy to use on the daily. If you get one high end warm toned palette: make it this one!
