Maybe I just have a thing for trying popular mascaras lately, but I finally got around to trying the Essence Lash Princess mascara ‘in the mint green tube’. Because there isn’t just one Lash Princess mascara, there are three. After trying the L’Oreal Paradise Extatic, I was curious to see what this much hyped about mascara is all about.
Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara
If there is one thing this mascara has going for it, it is the price point. At a mere €3.39 this is a very affordable mascara. It is definitely one of the cheapest ones I have tried so far and so far they haven’t been my favorite. One tried up much too quickly, while another made my eyes hurt as it dried down. Will this work better?
The Packaging
The tube of this mascara is not very special to me. It is simple and quite straightforward. I don’t like how this mascara comes in three different color ways: I never know which one to get. I bought the purple one last year and didn’t like it. So it is easy to grab for the wrong one if you’re in store. After determining that the most raved about Lash Princess mascara is the one in the green tube, I finally got around to try it.
The Brush
This mascara starts off good: the brush isn’t glooped up with product and the wand doesn’t look too crazy. I usually like quite a straightforward wand and this is it. This wand has a bit of a taper to it with shorter bristles towards the tip and wide bristles further down. Many people compare this to an It Cosmetics mascara, but I have never been able to try that.
The Application
But naturally, the proof is in the pudding and you won’t know how a mascara works until you apply it. Essence promises this will give volume and length with a false lash effect. And I would have to disagree. Yes this lengthens my lashes nicely, but this does not give me any noticeable volume and that is what I need most out of my mascara. I already have quite lengthy lashes, they are just part blonde, meaning you can’t see that.
Does the mascara make my lashes look more black? Yes. Does the mascara provide length? Yes. Does this mascara provide volume and a false lash effect? No. What I think this mascara does is give a very natural look. Check out the L’Oreal Paradise Extatic if you would like to see what kind of effect I prefer to get out of my mascara.
The mascara isn’t too dry, nor too wet, but I did feel the formula took a good 2 weeks to be perfect. But I have that issue with most mascaras. Now that I have used it for a few more weeks, I am finding it sticks some of my lashes together and it makes it look like I have fewer lashes. I solve that by brushing a waterproof mascara on top to make it last longer, but I am starting to notice that the longer I use this, the gloopier it gets and the more it sticks my lashes together.
The Conclusion
So what can we conclude about the Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect mascara? I think this is a great, affordable option if you want to achieve an everyday pretty look. I can definitely see why people love this and why it is so hyped up. However, it is not what I personally look for in a mascara. Personally, I’d prefer more volume and that is not what this mascara gives me.
What is your favorite affordable mascara option?

It is quite nice indeed.
I wish I loved this mascara, but I just cannot make it work for me. It is such a shame, because this is so affordable. However, it does make your lashes looking amazing!
I like it but am not over the moon like everyone else. I prefer more volume.
[…] Essence Lash Princess mascara & Maybelline Classic Volume mascara – After using up my Lash Paradise last month, I switched to another super popular mascara: Essence’s Lash Princess. I like it, but it doesn’t wow me. I want a bit more volume from my mascaras, but for a cheap mascara, this is definitely the best one I’ve tried. […]
