Who isn’t a fan of highlighter? I think if there is one makeup product that propelled to the forefront of the makeup loving crowd, it is highlighter. I remember a few years ago, hardly anybody cared or wore highlighter. Now, it is a feature many wouldn’t dream of skipping. I certainly wouldn’t! So these are my 5 favorite highlighters.
Favorite highlighters
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector pressed Pearl – Becca Pearl is a high end product that is absolutely stunning. Out of all the Becca highlighters, my first pick was not the infamous Champagne Pop as that is a bit dark for my skin tone. Moonstone was a bit too yellow for my taste, so when they released Pearl into their permanent collection, I knew it was the one for me. Pearl is an icy white shade that can look more subtle if applied lightly, but it can also be packed on for that out of space highlighter.
Colourpop Supershock Cheek Hippo – My love for purple toned highlighters is no secret and this is possibly one of my favorite affordable options. Hippo is a cream to powder highlighter that looks stunning if you have a fair skin tone. It’s not too blinding: it is more subtle, but I think the shade is unique. While purple highlight may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it is one I love as it goes well with my undertone. Where other shades don’t give off enough of a highlight, I know a purple highlight will always look good on me.
Urban Decay Afterglow Highlighter Aura – Aura is another one of my favorites. Where Hippo by Colourpop is more of a purple, this is a duochrome that flashes pink. It doesn’t have that blinding highlight quality that everyone loves, but I think this pinky flash is what makes this highlight pop for me. Because while this may seem quite unusual or boring to some, because the color shifts and that is what makes this highlight stand out more.
Catrice Enter Wonderland highlighter Fairy Dust – I don’t have a review for this one as it is an old limited edition highlight that I bought before I started really using highlighters. Champagne toned highlighters are not my favorite as they are usually too dark for me. Surprisingly this works really well. It’s one that I have kept for years and I only just rediscovered this a year or so again when I plucked it out of the dark nooks of my makeup collection. Luckily I am a bit of a hoarder and have trouble getting rid of super special or pretty makeup products.
Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder Iridescent Strobe Light – While many people do not like the Hourglass Highlighters, I personally love the one I own. Most people dislike these as they have visible shimmer particles in the product. I find however, that those shimmery bits disappear on the cheek and instead, this is one of the prettiest, most subtle highlights. If you like barely there highlights then I highly recommend this one.
LA Girl Strobe Lite Strobing Powder 110 Watt – Another product I have yet to review, but that I love is the LA Girl Strobe Lite highlighters. Finally I found a gold highlight shade that works for me. Gold highlights can be difficult for me to wear as they are a touch too dark and thus do not really provide me with much of a highlight. However, this has a very white undertone which is why it pops. It can be built up in intensity and thus this can be worn full on and very intense, or more subtle if you use a light hand. Personally I like using a generous amount of this one for that extra pop.
