Kat Von D Metal Crush singles

When I first wanted to try Kat Von D shadows, these metal crush eyeshadows had just been released. Since then, the brand has released these shadows in many different forms. There was the Metal Matte palette of course, but they now also do the metal mini. With that new release, these singles are now being phased out. However, since the idea of that palette is to mimic this formula, but in a palette form, I thought I would review these singles to give my take on this quite stunning formula.  kat von d metal crush mono single eyeshadow review swatch iggy paranoid thrasher

Paranoid, Iggy, Thrasher

Originally these shadows costs a whooping $21 at Sephora. There are only a few shades left, but they do now retail for $13. So if those shades still look nice to you, you may still be interested. Other than that, you will have to depend on current or future palette releases by Kat Von D. The packaging of these shadows is nice, but not spectacular as one might have come to expect from Kat Von D. The compacts are simple and simply get the job done.

Thrasher

The first shade I got was Thrasher. This is a very interesting gold shade. It isn’t too bright, nor is it quite bronzer, nor is it all that copper. It just keeps a nice middleground and a metallic eyeshadow collection of course would not be complete without some great metal like shades. It almost has that antiqued, green tone to it, which I appreciate as this makes it stand out between all the gold eyeshadows that are already out there.

Paranoid

What I also appreciate about this product is the reference to glamrock music and bands from the 70s in the shade names. Paranoid is a great way to describe this bright blue. In terms of bright, shimmery blues, this is one of the best ones. This shade is one of the reasons why I wanted to try this formula. I swatched this and fell in love. Such a great pop of color for the lower lashline!

Iggy

But the star of the show is definitely Iggy. This together with Paranoid was what drew me in. I spotted them at Sephora and knew I had to have them. The green of this shade is not too bright: it is definitely a true green but with a boatload of shimmer. It is a great shade to casually pop into so many eye looks. Quite possibly, this is the most versatile shade of the three. This can go onto the lid, the lower lash line, possibly the crease, but it would also make a stunning liner.

The Swatch

The first thing I notice about this formula is that it is a touch stiff. These aren’t the smoothest shadows on the market. That is probably why they are discontinuing these. I do think it is necessary: they are quite dry, but also have a heap of shimmer to them, which means these need to be firmly packed to avoid lots of fallout.

Pigmentation wise, these shadows are definitely what you might expect from Kat Von D. The amount of shimmer is not equal in every shade it seems, but I don’t really mind. The blue and green definitely apply better with a finger. The gold definitely outperforms the other two shades in smoothness and shine. But the lasting power of these is equal across the board.

The Application

I hardly experienced any fall out when creating this look. All I am wearing are these three shades and a bit of liquid liner. I put the gold all over the lid, the green in the inner corner (I love green in inner corners for some odd reason). For a fun pop of something on the lower lash line I am wearing the blog. I wouldn’t necessarily always use these three shades for a look, but for the sake of this blog post I thought I’d wear them together. I definitely get the most wear out of the gold: it is perfect for the holiday season.

The Conclusion

In short, the Kat Von D Metal Crush eyeshadows are some great single shadows. If you can’t find these exact shades anymore, then try out one of the palettes if you want a good deal of shimmer and a fun pop of color to have a bit of a play with.

  1. OMG look at that gold shade! 😱 Gorgeous!
I’m not a blue or green huge fan but they also look very pretty!
Great post! Can’t wait for the next one!

  2. I kick myself for not picking up at least one of these before they were discontinued. I kept eyeing the colour Thrasher – it’s such an unusual but wearable gold colour.
