After having tried the Huda Beauty Desert Dusk palette and liking it, I knew I wanted to try more of their eyeshadow palettes. When the brand released a bunch of smaller 9 pan palettes in the Obsessions series, I knew I wanted to get one. The line is renewed all the time and when this bright, rainbow colored rendition was release, I knew I had to try it. Meet Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions.

Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette

Huda Beauty is known for having quite expensive palettes. The full sized palettes retail for $65 each, but these smaller ones retail for $27. So they are a great way to try the brand and their formula. In total, the palette contains 9 shades and each version of these is different and therefore cater to different needs. They are also quickly discontinued and currently I cannot find this in stock on many websites, but several retailers are still selling this. I bought mine via Sephora.

The Packaging

One of the best parts about these palettes is how small they are. These palettes literally fit into the palm of your hand. Despite the small size of the palettes, they didn’t skimp on the amount of product you get. The pan in these palettes are as big as in their full sized palettes. They are just pressed more closely together. This palette still contains nearly 10 grams of product and you get a mirror in the lid.

The Palette

Isn’t she a beaut?! In this 9 pan palette you get 3 shimmers and 6 mattes and each one of them is pigmented and packed with color. At first sight you may not see how these might combine into cohesive eye looks. But my challenge last year was to try more colorful eyeshadows and see if I could make them work and wearable. And despite this being a super bright, intensely pigmented palette, the looks you can do with this are still great for wearing even on the daily.

I do have to say that I would have liked to have one more shimmer in this palette. All the shimmer are cool toned and it would have been great if one of the warm tones could also have had a shimmer to it. That way more dimension would be brought: I usually find matte shades a bit flat and more difficult to create depth. Because of my eye shape I prefer to wear a shimmer on the lid to make my eyes pop a bit more.

The Swatches

Looking at the shades swatched row by row, this may seem like a mixed bag of shades that do not go together. But the left part of the palette is more cool toned, while the right side is more warm toned. The palette contains a great yellow, a good matte pink and three high shine metallics that are super intense when applied. The blendability and application of these shades is A+++ and the shades stay put until you decided to take off your makeup at the end of the day. To show you how I combined these eyeshadow colors, I created two different looks to show you have these shades apply to the eye.

The Application

Look 1: Cool toned

If you stick to the cool tones in the palette, this is one of the looks you can do. I used the three left most shades, the shimmery green and bright pink. The bright pink is in the crease, blended out with the soft purple in the top left corner. The shimmering blue and green are on the lid. I cut the first half of the lid into my crease to intensify that light blue/ green shade. To add depth and definition, I used the matte teal on my bottom lash line.

This is my favorite look with this palette and I was very happy with this look in general. Not only did it allow me to try some new makeup techniques, but it also is a very poppy, bright look. Despite it being bright, I do not think this looks unwearable. Without the cut crease, this would definitely be a look I would wear to work. The shades all blended out nicely and in no time.

Look 2: Warm toned

For the warm toned look I used the matte yellow on the lid, the red in the crease and the orange to blend out. The only other shade I hadn’t used yet was the purple and I put that on the lower lashline. Purple is a great shade to use alongside warm tones I find, but I can also see this working in the look above. Just like you could use that yellow to bridge the gap as well.

While this palette is a bright palette without a neutral in sight, there are still enough shades that can anchor a look to make it work. The pink, yellow, red and orange are all shades that work well as a baseline from which you can go in different directions. Bearing color theory in mind, making combinations is easy peasy and I am very inspired and have lots of ideas for other looks with this palette. For instance, I would love to combine the yellow with the teal and the pink with the purple and red.

The Conclusion

The Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions eyeshadow palette is a surprising little allrounder. It is bright, yet also very inspirational and a palette that keeps on giving. Because it is smaller and therefore cheaper, these little obsessions palettes are great if you want to try the Huda Beauty formula and in the case of this palette in particular, bright, rainbow eyeshadows. I am absolutely smitten by this palette, now all I have to do is to wear it more often.

  1. These are so awesome , reminds me of the ud electric pallette which I still use quite a bit . I like this pallette but will probably go for the new neon obsessions in pink.
