Original Source is a brand I was unfamiliar with. I usually swear by my The Body Shop products and I have for years. Nothing much has been able to deter me from using TBS shower gels, scrubs and body butters. They are just the best in my opinion: they lather nicely, have great scents and make me feel clean without stripping my skin too much. But then I found this super affordable bodycare brand when I was browsing Boots in London and I thought I’d give it a try. By now I have tried all these products enough to have made up my mind.
Original Source Daily Scrub Tea Tree & Skin Quench Pineapple & Coconut, Watermelon & Jojoba
When you hear what I paid for these you’ll understand why I was intrigued. The regular price point for these is £1.95, but this brand is on offer more than it is not and you can usually buy this for as little as £1.00 per bottle. That was the case when I bought these and I just hadn’t gotten round to reviewing these yet. So high time I did it, because for such a great budget option I was definitely pleasantly surprised by these items.
General Thoughts
My general thoughts on these is quite favorable. The only thing I knew after trying all of these was that the tea tree scent of the scrube was my favorite, but the scrub itself was not. I will be reviewing each individual product in full below, but I thought I should let you know that on my next trip to the UK, I picked up some more Original Source products. Yep, that’s how much I liked these. And guess what: the Skin Quench comes in a Tea Tree & Mint scent, so my favorite product and my favorite scent was out there and that for a mere £1. What more could you want? At that price point this is an absolute steal. Is the same as TBS quality? No it’s not, but if all you’re looking to do is get clean, then these products are good enough and a great budget alternative to other more expensive brands out there.
In The Netherlands you can get this brand online and for once it is not marked up. A bottle retails for €1.50, which is quite reasonable. The brand tries to be as natural as possible, is fully vegan and tries to use natural fragrance in their products too. Their mission is to create products that let you enjoy all that nature has to offer while respecting the globe and all its beauty. In total there are 11 different scents to choose from and they offer two different lines.
The Review
Original Source Daily Scrub Tea Tree – I’ll start off with my least favorite product. I am not a big fan of scrubs, mainly because they usually come in tubs which are just unhandy in a shower. I wish every brand were to put their scrubs in a squeezy tube like this. So much easier to use! Of the three scents I tried, this was by far my favorite, but in terms of scrubbing it didn’t do much. There just aren’t enough scrubbing granules to make this worth your while and I felt I had to use a lot of product for it to do anything. Gladly, this product also comes in the shower gel version and that is one I like a lot more.
Original Source Skin Quench Pineapple & Coconut Oil – I can’t find this scent on the Dutch website so it seems like their line has changed since I got my hands on these. I liked this scent best of the two shower gels. This is definitely a gel. This doesn’t foam up as much as I am used to which makes me use more, but overall it makes my skin feel clean without stripping it and making it feel very dry. The scent is mostly noticeable as you are using the product, but the scent doesn’t linger for very long after. The scent is quite fresh and tangy, like real pineapple, but without it making you feel like you’ve doused yourself in chunks of fruit which always makes me feel gross.
Original Source Skin Quench Watermelon & Jojoba Oil – When I purchased these I really thought this would be my favorite scent. Watermelon tastes and smells sweet but also very refreshing so I was very hopeful for this, but it ended up not being my favorite. The scent of this was barely noticeable and combined with the lightweight texture of this I felt it was the least effective. The bottles of these also requires a firm squeeze as the plastic is quite thick and especially when you start using these up, you end up having to use quite a bit of force to get the product out. I found it hard to use up every single last drop of product.
