Maybelline is one of my favorite drugstore brands so when they release new products I am going to be intrigued. One of my last reviews was for the City bronzer and Dream Urban Cover foundation. But a concealer? That’s been a hot minute by Maybelline. And I am not even sure how new this is as Maybelline seems to be making a habit of repackaging old stuff or at least claiming they are reformulating already existing products. But that still means there is a new product. A product I haven’t tried yet. So let’s review the new Maybelline Superstay concealer.
Review: Maybelline Superstay Full Coverage Undereye concealer 10 Fair
Maybelline as a brand is not one that is exactly know for doing something new an exciting. What they are known for is doing great, consistent products of good quality at a decent price point. Since over here Maybelline is a bit expensive, I tend to buy the products usually in a buy 1 get 1 free deal. This concealer in particular retails for €13.49, which is quite a high price point for a drugstore concealer. That said, some of my favorite concealers are by Maybelline, so I had high hopes for this. Is this anything like the Fit Me concealer? Is it anything like the Age Rewind concealer?
What does this concealer have to offer?
This concealer is called the Superstay Full Coverage Under-eye Concealer. That is not only a mouthful; it is also a claim that sounds quite contrasting to me. Because usually full coverage concealers don’t look great on my undereye area. They usually crease, look cakey and make my undereye look drier than they already are. So for this concealer to claim to be full coverage, but also for the under eye area intrigued me. It is available in 12 shades of which I bough 10 Fair which is the lightest pink toned shade.
How does this concealer swatch?
For a full coverage concealer this is a very lightweight concealer. It looks very thin and not dry and cakey at all! So you can say I was surprised when I first this swatched this. It blends seamlessly and easily into the skin and the shade is spot on for what I liked. The only issue I have with this is that the formula doesn’t sit well in the tube. Either the formula is so thin that the wand has a hard time picking it up, or there just isn’t a lot of product in the tube. In any case, I have been using this all month and I am already having to scrape the sides to get the product out.
How does this concealer apply?
Despite the thin formula this concealer performs well. It wears down nicely. It gets a bit dry looking throughout the day but not to the point where it gets so noticeable that it ages me as it pulls into every line I have. It blends out easily with a sponge and that is what I would recommend to use with this. With a brush you will get a higher coverage, but I think that it looks better on me when I blend it in with a sponge. In terms of coverage I think this is a good medium coverage, but a true full coverage this does not offer. You can certainly build it up to be that, but the formula it too thin to really be full coverage. You can still see some blueness in my inner corners after applying this.
My final thoughts
This concealer is not better than the Fit Me and Age Rewind concealers I already tried and love. This concealer is good, don’t get me wrong, it’s just not a product that blew my socks off. For how expensive this is and what it claims to do I think it is rather expensive and doesn’t deliver on some of its claims. What I like most about this is the fact that it is a thin formula that is super easy to apply: this truly makes light work of blending in your concealer.
Would I recommend the Maybelline Superstay concealer?
If you have dry skin like I do and you are not super young and have some fine lines than you would be better off with the Fit Me. If you want a good coverage concealer I think the Age Rewind concealers has better coverage than this does. However, if you are looking for an easy to use concealer and you can get this in a deal and you are out of concealer than this is a good alternative to many drugstore concealers.
