Zoeva Eclectic Eyes eyeshadow palette review

Zoeva makes some of my favorite eyeshadow palettes. And they are so underrated! So many more people should be raving about this brand and their eyeshadow palettes in particular. This German makeup brand has been acing it for years and I love their palettes. I have plenty of reviews up for their products and that is why whenever they come out with new stuff, I want to try it. One of their more recent releases? The Zoeva Eclectic Eyes eyeshadow palette. Let’s have a closer look.

Review: Zoeva Eclectic Eyes eyeshadow palette

If there is a brand that makes quite affordable palettes but with amazing quality then Zoeva is a good one to look into. Their palettes are less expensive than an Anastasia or Urban Decay and have better quality than many drugstore palettes I have tried. They also do some interesting color stories, with unique shades such as duochromes and a general concept behind it. I really appreciate them and at €23 a piece they do not break the bank at all.

What does this palette have to offer?

The Eclectic Eyes palette is one that was launched as a Sephora exclusive originally. By now it is still available on the Zoeva official website though. It just came there a bit later than anywhere else. Zoeva palettes at this price point give you 10 shades with some mattes, but mostly shimmers. That is what the brand does best. In this palette you get just three mattes and everything else ranges from a satin to a metallic and/ or glitter shade. I appreciate that you get a variety of textures in this.

What is the color story like?

My only gripe with this palette? The color story is not as vibrant as you might expect from the outer packaging. The other packaging features bright blues and purples and what you get inside is much more muted. They still work well enough together but it just would have been even better if the shades inside matched the ones you see on the outside. This palette splits into neutrals and muted jewel tones for me. With five very basic shades on the left side of the palette and 5 more interesting shades on the right side of the palette.

Eclectic Eyes is a Zoeva palette that performs very well in finger swatches. The mattes, as well as the shimmers all glide on seamlessly and are smooth to the touch. The mattes are a bit harder pressed than some of the shimmers. That means they need more building up on the eye than other mattes, but that also means they do not have a ton of kick up. The shimmers, especially Dimensional Play, are a bit more flaky and can get messy if you overdo it. Just use a light hand or your finger when you apply them.

2 Looks, 1 Palette

Look 1: Blues & Greens

The minute I opened this palette up, the blues and greens on the right side of the palette called my name. They all performed well, save for one shade: Recorded Luxe. This is a matte with a glitter suspended in the formula and the pretty teal glitter just wouldn’t translate to the eye. What I ended up with was just a basic matte. I used the shade as liner here to really try and pack it on, but there is no glitter anywhere to be found. The others all worked well. I was especially impressed by the green and steel blue shimmer and the grey/ blue matte. Those all worked lovely.

Look 2: Just the neutrals

For my second look I played with the neutrals and neutrals is something Zoeva does very well. Also in this palette they performed lovely: the bronze shimmer is stunning all over the lid and I used a bit of purple on the lower lash line to add a touch more color. These all blended smoothly and went on easily and impactful with no effort. I can also see these neutrals combine well with the greens and blues on the other side of the palette.

My final thoughts

The Zoeva Eclectic Eyes eyeshadow palette is one that is one of the best ones in terms of quality that Zoeva has done. Yes that glitter shade is not as pretty on the eye as it looks in the pan, but if you approach as you would any dark matte, then this is really no loss to the palette. There are some gorgeous shimmers here and the color story makes for versatility and day to night appropriate looks. This is a 10 pan palette that can do it all.

Would I recommend Zoeva Eclectic Eyes?

Yes I would, but then again, I would recommend almost any Zoeva eyeshadow palette I tried. The quality is great and for the price point you get a lot of bang for your buck. The shades are unique and combine well. This is just a great all-rounder that I think will appeal to many different people.

  1. I agree with you that Zoeva is underrated as a brand. I love their brushes and have quite a few of their eyeshadow and face palettes. Love the sleek packaging without mirror. Most of the palettes have nice buildable and blendable shades that can you can create different looks with. I’m looking forward to testing out their foundation and new cheek products, but would want to check them in store before committing. So fingers crossed they will be available in Douglas stores shortly.
