Catrice & Essence X Disney Princess & Disney Villains Sisterlove Limited Edition review

EEEK! Look what I got my hands on?! Yes! I managed to purchase all 6 eyeshadow palettes in the new Catrice & Essence Sisterlove limited edition collection in collaboration with Disney. The collection is split up into two parts: Catrice tackles the Disney Villains, while Essence takes care of the Disney Princesses and each brand has released 3 palettes. Since I already tried the previous Catrice & Essence Sisterlove Royal Party collection last year, I figured these could be fun to try. And of course I love myself a bit of Disney related makeup having already tried last year’s Essence Disney Princess collection as well as this year’s Catrice Minnie Mouse & Daisy Duck palettes. In short, how could I not try these?

In total the collection features 6 eyeshadow palettes, but these are not the only products available. The full collection also includes brushes, highlighters and lipsticks. I even spotted some face masks that are supposedly available now. I bought my products from Kosmetik4less.de. This currently seems to be the only place that stocks the collection outside of Germany as far as I know. I do know for sure that this collection will not be coming to The Netherlands. The Catrice palettes retail for €12.95 and contain 16 pans each. The Essence palettes for €9.95 and contain 14 pans each.

The Snow White palette is the most neutral one in the bunch. Apart from a pop of green and blue this features mainly browns, creams, beiges and golds. Nothing wrong with that of course, but the color story is little unique. The shades all blend well and are easily applied to the lid. In terms of shimmer I wish there was a bit more variety in texture and color variation in this one. Still a pretty drugstore palette that I think can a ppeal to many people, but I had hoped for more.

I had more luck with the Ariel palette. This is soft and neutral but also a bit more warm toned. Warm tones usually aren’t my jam, but this is a warm toned palette after my heart. It features some stunning duochrome shimmers and these are very soft and easy to apply. You get two interesting pops of coral and I like how this is not too deep. That may not work for you if you have a much deeper complexion than I do, but for me it works out marvelously.

Of the Essence palettes in this collection, the Aurora palette is possibly my favorite. And the reason is very simple: this is the most cool toned palette in the bunch. With mauves, taupes and a few plums thrown into the mix, this is the color story that works best on my complexion. It also has the most mattes out of the three Essence palettes. Is it unique? No, as I have too many rosy toned palettes too begin with, but this is still the prettiest one for me.

Catrice x Essence Sisterlove 5.0 Disney Villains eyeshadow palette Maleficent

The Maleficent palette is the one I was most curious after. The color story looked very promising when I first spotted this in pictures. Out of the bunch, this definitely is the most unique, thought not because of its color selection, but mainly for the different textures you get. You get a decent amount of mattes, 2 pressed glitters, 2 marbled shades, a supershock like cream to powder formula, 2 duochromes and a bunch of other good shimmer options. In short, this palette has most to offer, but I wish some of the neutrals in this palette were more cool toned leaning to better complement the greens.

Catrice x Essence Sisterlove 5.0 Disney Villains eyeshadow palette Ursula

The Ursula palette is perhaps the only palette with a color story that suits her character best. This palette also has the most neutral toned basic shades for setting up the look. The matte purple looks terrible in a swatch but on the eye I was able to build it up. It didn’t blend smoothly though and also the shimmering sheer purple next to it was more difficult to pick up. These were the only two shades in all these palettes that I had some more problems with applying. Everything else blended and applied beautifully.

Catrice x Essence Sisterlove 5.0 Disney Villains eyeshadow palette Evil Queen

Last but not least is the Evil Queen palette which is another more warm toned palette. It is pretty but it also features one pressed glitter that is the worst of all pressed glitters in these palettes. It is sparse, it is flaky and it feels like craft glitter rather than something I would feel okay putting on the eye. It does features a stunning cream to powder shade called mirror that reminds me a lot of Colourpop’s Ritz. In short, this is pretty, but it is warm toned and therefore I am already little bit biased against it.

Combined makeup look using 2 shades from each palette

To truly show you how well these shades work, I also threw together a look using some of my favorite shades from every single palette. As you can see I am more than capable of throwing together a good look. That’s because in terms of quality these are great drugstore palettes. They blend well, apply well and stay put well. However, in terms of individual color stories I wish we were given something a bit more unique.

My final thoughts

As mentioned in the video, I really like these new Catrice and Essence palettes, but I mainly bought them to review and because I am a bit of a makeup nerd who likes Disney. If that description does not suit you, then I am not sure whether these palettes can give you what you are looking for. The Catrice palettes all have 2 pressed glitters, which I think limits who these might be right for. The Essence ones are nice, but overall they feature the least amount of mattes. For the price point these are good, but now that I have tried these, I don’t think it is worth trying to get your hands on them as they are quite basic and every day.

Would I recommend the Catrice & Essence X Disney Princess & Villains limited edition eyeshadow palette?

For lovers of all things Disney, I think this collection is bang on the money. I wished the color stories were more exciting though and often times they don’t really fit the character it is supposed to represent all that well. For the most part these palettes are quite basic. So if you already have a few palette lying around, this is not going to be a total musthave. However, if you are like me and you love Essence/ Catrice makeup AND you love Disney than these palettes will be a great addition to any makeup collection.

What do you think of the new CAtrice & Essence X Disney Limited Edition collection?

  1. I was surprised to see the colors aren’t more vibrant. You’re right only Ursula’s is a good example of what her character’s colors are. But I think the designs embossed in the pans are really cute! And the artwork on the covers is nice. I can see why you wanted them for your collection.
