In my forever lasting search for the best skincare for my dry, dehydrated sensitive skin, I became curious after trying some k-beauty skincare brands. Dr. Jart + is now a bit more widely available but a few years ago quite a few bloggers and Youtubers were raving about their Ceramidin line. I decided to look into it and bought two products from the line through Amazon when they first became more widely available to the Dutch market. The first product I will be reviewing for you is the Dr. Jart Ceramidin Liquid Toner.
Skincare review: Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Liquid Toner
You can purchase this brand from several places. I first eyed it up in Selfridge’s on a trip to London, but found the products quite expensive. Not knowing what this would do, I decided to skip it and search for it online. If you’re in The Netherlands your safest bet for purchasing this is probably Look Fantastic where this retails for €37.45. After a bit of a hunt, I settled on Amazon and paid around the €28 mark for the exact same product. So it doesn’t hurt to shop around a bit for this.
What does this product have to offer?
So this is a product that confuses me. It’s called a toner but it is not to be used in the way I am used to using a toner. In Western skincare a toner is a last step in a cleansing routine where you put some on a cotton pad and then ‘reset’ your skin and prep it for skincare. This product does not work like that. It is supposed to be used by adding a generous dollop of product to your hands and spreading it all over your face. Why? Because this is supposed to be a moisturizer. Like a generous drink of moisture for your skin before adding other products on top but it can also be used by itself.
What are the ingredients like?
With skincare I always like to highlight the ingredient list. With this I was very surprised how long the list is. In my point of view, the longer the list, the more abracadabra a product contains and the least informative it actually is. This product boasts containing a Ceramidin complex, but from what I can tell those ingredients are all the way at the bottom of the list so whether it actually does anything I cannot attest. The lower down the list, the lower the concentration is and since the complex is all the way at the bottom there is no way telling whether the concentration is high enough for it to have any benefits to the skin.
Does this product do what it is supposed to do?
To that question I can answer a wholehearted YES! This is definitely a very moisturzing product. It’s weird though. It feels and smells like an aftershave and once absorbed it leaves a gently sticky layer. I have therefore found this works best as a morning time moisturizer after cleansing the skin, but before makeup. It is absorbed quickly, even though your skin feels quite wet at first, and because of the stickiness I feel makeup grabs on stays put quite nicely. I have not liked incorporating this into my night time routine as I feel it creates a bit of a barrier and doesn’t allow for other skincare products to sink in as nicely.
My final thoughts
I am a bit on the fench about this one. I like the Dr. Jart Ceramidin toner but I don’t think I would repurchase it. It is surely hydrating and it feels pleasant on the skin, but I don’t think this product is a must have. The combination of the scent and the fact that the ingredients it boasts about are so far down the list that it is questionable whether those ingredients actually do anything makes me hesitant about this product to say the least.
Would I recommend the Dr. Jart Ceramidin Liquid Toner?
When it comes to skincare this is not the musthave I had envisioned it to be. It comes with a whopping 100 ml of product so this does last you quite a long time, which is nice especially for how expensive this is, but I don’t think this is a product I think you should run out to get. I will use up mine for sure, as I like it okay enough, but this is not a product that truly made a huge difference to my skincare routine. I have tried cheaper moisturizers that I like just as well.
