You may know I own quite a few Colourpop palettes, but the reviews for them have not been happening much yet on here. The reason why is because I felt the color stories just weren’t perfect when I tried them. By now, I have reorganized them into color stories that actually inspire me and now I feel it works so much better for me. Even though I still want to review these palettes as is, so I think the next few weeks I will be posting the reviews for my Colourpop 9-pan palettes slowly but surely. Let’s kick things off with Strawberry Shake!
Review: Colourpop Strawberry Shake eyeshadow palette
The Colourpop 9-pan palettes retails for $14 from their website. I get many questions how I buy from the brand, but I always just buy directly from Colourpop.com. Living in Europe that means I pay extra customs but I always wait for sales to buy from them. They currently do 30% off site wide as I am writing this, so this would be an opportune time to benefit from the sale and make it worth it. They also have many palettes in stock currently so I think this is a good moment to buy from the brand if you were looking into them.
What does this palette have to offer?
Strawberry Shake was not my favorite when I first tried it. I felt it has many singular shades I like but when I apply them all together to my face, it’s just too pink and sickly looking. However, with a palette named after one of my favorite fruits, it didn’t surprise me how pink this was. It really is 9 shades of pink, but they are all quite warm toned pinks and on my cool to neutral undertone, it just isn’t the best.
What is the color story like?
So what is there to say about a 9-pan pink palette? Not much other this is a pink palette. The palette features 5 mattes and 3 full on shimmers. One shade, the pink in the middle, is a matte with glitter which helps to blend the shade. I ended up keeping quite a few of these shades when I fused it together with the Ooh La La and It’s my Pleasure but I also popped one of these shades into the Main Squeeze and now that I have added some deeper shades and some brighter pops of pink and some deeper purples, I feel the palette works so much better. How do these colors swatch?
While I wasn’t a fan of how these shades combined, what I did like, was the quality. This palette is one of the better quality ones I have tried from the Colourpop monochromatic 9-pan line. Which is why I ended up keeping quite a few of these in the end. I mean the three shimmers are lovely the red is nice and vibrant and that matte pink with glitter in the middle is just a stellar, stellar shade. The rest? Not great on my undertone. But they are pretty and easy to blend so I do like them.
How do these eyeshadows apply?
My usual jam is that I use all the shades in the palette and because I felt this palette came with quite a few meh shades that didn’t really appeal to me, I felt I could do a look with all 9 shades. A bit much perhaps for a single look, but as you can see here, it really doesn’t seem like that many. The reason? Because some of the lighter mattes are all renditions of the same shade. However the shimmers is where it at for me so those are the ones I ended up keeping. The look I did is pretty, but I do feel the pinks are quite warm toned and just make it look like I have pink eye from a distance. So lovely shades, but not perfect.
My final thoughts
The Colourpop Strawberry Shake eyeshadow palette is one that suffered from: great quality but the shades just don’t play together very well in and eye look on my skin tone. The shades themselves are great standalones, but now that I have rejigged those Colourpop palettes I feel much more inclined to go back and use it. Paired with other shades, these pink really look pretty, but it’s just not as perfect on its own. And that will be my conclusion with many of my Colourpop 9-pan palettes, so apologies in advance if I start sounding like a broken record.
Would I recommend the Colourpop Strawberry Shake eyeshadow palette?
I don’t think I would recommend buying just this one palette if you do decide to buy it. Yes the quality is great, but I honestly do not know who this might look flattering on and not make them look like they have been crying for hours. Unless you buy more Colourpop 9-pans or if you buy this with the aim of transforming it into single and only keep the shades you love, then this may work for you. However, I cannot recommend this, no matter how cheap it is as a stand alone palette. It’s just not perfect enough.

I actually really like this palette! Like you I have fair skin but I can get away with the warmer pink tones. I do agree, the quality of these shades is good. You’ve inspired me to get this out again soon and have a play ☺️
It is a good quality palette for sure, but I really wanted more from these colourpop 9-pans across the board. Hence my revamp a few weeks ago.
