A beauty product that took the beauty world by storm when it launched were the Anastasia liquid lipsticks. Then again, matte, fully opaque long lasting liquid lipsticks are hot and happening right now and there are many brands that do them. Anastasia Beverly Hills made sure plenty of bloggers and Youtubers were talking about these particular ones and so I was very curious to see for myself. It took quite a lot of effort to track them down, as only Nordstrom carries these in physical stores, but I found a color I liked and decided to test it out.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick Carina
The Anastasia Liquid Lipsticks retail for 20 dollars each. For this amount of money you receive 3.2 grams of product. That may not seem like a lot, but this product goes a very long way. But before we get into the workings of this product, let’s look at the aesthetics first.
The lipstick comes in clear packaging that shows the color you have on hand. The lid is silver and there is gold embossing along the side. Personally, I don’t find the packaging too appealing, but rather a tad tacky. I think it’s the clashing of the gold and silver right next to one another that doesn’t appeal to me very much.
Some information on the box tells us the following:
A full coverage matte lipstick in liquid form. This formula stays true to color, delivers intense payoff, and stays put for hours.
But it also comes with the warning that you shouldn’t use this product if any rash or irritation appears. The fact that the product warns the user of this in advance is quite new to me. I don’t think I have every bought a beauty product that comes not only with a description but also with a warning.
The product comes in a lip gloss type tube, but don’t be fulled. The product that comes out is a color so filled with pigment that is more like a solid paint, than a lip product. You apply the product by using the doe foot applicator, but if you want to be extra careful I suggest you use a lip brush for an even and straight lip line. I didn’t do that for the swatch in this post which is why my top lip line looks a little bit odd.
The color I picked, Carina, is a full on raspberry coral shade that I though would be nice and bright for summer. I was drawn to this product because of its seemingly long lasting qualities and excellent pigmentation. The fact that it dries to a matte finish only added icing on the proverbial cake.
Swatched the Anastasia liquid lipstick looks stunning, be it a little bit scary. You can already see it drying in the middle and that is one thing that is great as well as not so great about this product. Because it dries fast, you need to work quickly and making mistakes can be disastrous to the overall look. That said though, the pigmentation is absolutely stunning. One swipe is all you need to cover your entire lip.
Like I said, applying this lipstick is no ill feat and that is why this swatch is a little bit wobbly. From a distance, I didn’t think it looked too bad which is why I kept it this way. The only way to resolve any mistakes is to take everything off and then reapply it all to begin with and so this product requires a steady hand and patience to get it right in one go.
I absolutely adore this color though. It is just the right amount of bright and as promised this is a very long lasting lip product. I needed a waterproof make up remover to get this off my lips after a full day of work. The inside of my lip color had disappeared by that time, but the area of my lips least affected by food or drink stayed put all day.
The only downside I can see about this product is the fact that it doesn’t make your lips feel all that grand. Since it dries matte, you can feel it on your lips all day. It is not a very unpleasant feeling, but you can feel a little layer lying on top of your lips for the most part. It doesn’t pull or hurt though, which is my experience with some long lasting lipsticks and I don’t feel this product dries out my lips.
If only the Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks weren’t so hard to come by and sold out so quickly. Because if these were more widely available and the popular and more unique shades would be in stock at all times, I would gladly add a few of these to my collection. It is one of the very few lip products that lasts throughout a 12 hour work day without touch ups.
