30 Day make up challenge #16 – colorful

30 Day make up challenge #16 – colorful

Oh yes, the 30 day make up challenge is still on! This time we’re playing with color. Since I hit the halfway mark last January, I’ve noticed that this challenge is now taking a far more interesting term. Interesting, challenging and more innovative than the past 15 installments have been. So here’s to trying something different, something new.

Yup that is bright blue eyeshadow I’m wearing. For day 16, colorful, I thought it would be a great way to try an keep my new year’s resolution to wear more colorful make up. So I delved in my make up collection and came up with a blue and purple combination with an unexpected twist. I decided to try out the look and feel of a colored brow bone highlight.

Because I knew the eyes would be quite out there, I went with a neutral face make up. But a colorful make up look, wouldn’t be a colorful make up look if it didn’t have another splash of colors on the lips. Perhaps a brighter pop of pink would have been even more daring, but I figured that a pink that is not too bright would make this look more wearable. And I did have to wear this out when I made it.

The main focus of color is on the lid. I tried to blend out the colors with transition color before adding back in some more color by mixing a blue with some white to create a brow bone highlight. Instead of highlighting my inner corner I went with more color. The purple breaks up the blue and I feel it keeps it from getting too dated and 70s looking.

This is definitely more out of the box than my usual make up look. I am not sure how I’m feeling about the blue highlight. I think it looks okay when I close my eyes, but with my eyes open, I think it’s too much blue. Or it’s just my brow bone that is too massive, or I’d need more of a transition color. What would your suggestion be to make this work? Would you wear anything like this yourself? And stay tuned on more make up adventures coming up in the future.

Colorful make up look for summer

Colorful make up look for summer

Apart from colorful nails, I like wearing colorful make up looks from time to time. Especially summer time calls for brighter, bolder colors on the eyes. I love going for greens, blues and purples. My favorite palette to use for adding some pop of color is one of my Inglot palettes and so I used that to create this look. Stay tuned till the end of the post. For the occasion I’ve decided to look up some older make up looks I created throughout the years. You can find those at the bottom of this post.

Apart from my Inglot palette, I kept the face very neutral. I got my hands on a lilac colored mascara and eyeliner and so I thought by adding those instead of the usual black/ brown, it would be a bit much to then also have a bright blush or a bright lip. And it’s something I tend to mute down anyway whenever I do more colorful eye looks. It is simply more appropriate. You tend to look like a clown when you overdo it, and that’s never a good look.

I do think that the adding of the colored eyeliner and mascara on the bottom lashes adds that bit of extra fun to the look. Another thing I like about this look is that it brings out the green in my eyes. I seem to have brown eyes in most lighting, but when I use certain make up colors or stand in certain lighting, they have a hint of green to them. Many make up artists notice this and so whenever I had my make up done, they always incorporate something purple into my make up looks.

To keep the look fresh and simple, I didn’t use a liquid or gel liner to define my upper lash line. It takes away quickly from the color on my eyelids and I wanted that bright of color to still be visible. I already said that I made this look using an Inglot palette. It features 10 colors and I put it together more than 2 years ago. You can have a more close up look at the palette by reading this blog post.

It felt good to play around with some colors again. And that is why I added these older looks below. I used to be so much more adventurous with my eye make up. But then I discovered bright lipsticks and became devoted to those. I should do more of these looks again. Perhaps I should simply pick up the 30 day make up challenge from now on as I was coming onto the more interesting tasks on there. I’ve included links to these looks where possible. Never mind the sometimes cringeworthy picture quality of these posts, my blog has come a long way in the almost 4 years that I’ve been doing this!
