Current favorite songs (November 2012)

It’s the end of the month and of course I’ve been listening to quite a bit of music again. I started reorganizing my music files again so I also have my list sorted by type of music. I sometimes find myself only wanting to listen to one particular type of music and to then have to sort through over 10.000 songs is simply undoable. I used to have my list of MP3s organized in this way, but I stopped doing it as it was so much work. I’ve decided that this is not something I have to keep up with every time I have new music, but I can just do it whenever I feel like it. Anywho, enough blabbing. On to the music.

There is definitely something here for everyone: from shoegaze to new wave, from R&B to chill wave, from electro to something folky. It even features some more mainstream music. Lord help me!

Wall – Magazine

Fairly slow song that cobbles along like a little stream. A bit shoegaze like and dreamy too. Just an overall song to make you feel warm and fuzzy.

The Ghosts – Forgetting What We Know

This song has a bit of an 80s New Wave vibe to it. The chorus is catchy and the lead singer has an easy voice to listen to.

James & Evander – Can’t Forget

Electro/ chill wave type song, but still a bit poppy.

Frank Ocean – Sweet Life

I don’t listen to a lot of R&B. The R&B I listen to is all from the 90s. Because back then, R&B was about love and smooth sounds. Frank Ocean is bringing back that 90s vibe, but spices it up and updates it to 2012. Love, love his voice. Still bummed he had to cancel Pukkelpop.

The Black Atlantic – An Archer, A Dancer

Whistle like flutes, supported by guitars riffs and a steady continuation of drum rolls: that’s what this song is about. It’s a fusion of folk with some rock and also some electronic elements.

Vektroid – Calm

My chillwave is still not wavering, but I do have to say I’m becoming more and more picky. This song is so heavely relaxed!

Hot Chip – Ends of the Earth

It’s always a party if you play Hot Chip and that’s what this song is: a party, yet a slightly nerdy one. And that suits Hot Chip. I saw them live a few years ago and no matter how much the crowd cheers them on, half the band just stoicly plays their instruments, while a few of them attempts some awkward dance moves.

Drake – Lord Knows

From R&B we go on to hiphop. Yup. I have been listening to Drake’s album for a while now (since this summer) and I have to say: I really really like it. That is rare for me. I just love this song as it combines choirs with a nice beat.

Solar Bears – Cub (Keep Shelly in Athens Remix)

Indie pop with a chillwave twist. It is a remix after all.

The XX – Tides

It’s the XX! So of course this had to be on this list. I have to admit I don’t like Coexist as much as their debut, but I certainly love a few songs from it. This is one of them.
