Catrice Liquid Metal Gel Eye Pencil

I love writing about my budget make up favorites. And today I’ll be reviewing my current favorite eyeliner pencil for you. Forget Urban Decay’s 24/7 glide-on eyeliner pencils! Make way for the Catrice Liquid Metal Gel Eye Pencils, because they are some of the best drugstore finds in recent times.

I first spotted these pencils when Catrice installed a larger selection in select stores in September. The pencils retail for €3.99 a piece and as far as I know only available in stores with said larger selection of products. They are quite difficult to spot in the display, probably the reason why I haven’t seen much about these yet. I picked up two, a bronze brown and gold shade when I first spotted these. When I decided I liked them, I went back and picked up two more: a silver and khaki green.

The pencils are available in 8 different shades. I picked up the more neutral ones, but there are also a black, a purple, a turqoise and blue color. Here’s what Catrice has to say about these pencils:

A soft, gel-like texture that lasts all day without smudging? That’s exactly what the Liquid Metal Gel Eye Pencil with a retractable mine offers, and it ensures spectacular metallic effects, too.

When I picked these up I didn’t kow what to expect, but a gel-like texture, no smudging and long lasting qualities are all promises that sound great to me. But will they hold up?

The packaging of these pencils is simple. They have a nip at the bottom that you use to twist up the pencil. You can’t sharpen these and at first I thought that might be a problem. But I find that these work great. Mine have started to wear down quite a bit by now and I can still use these to tightline my waterline and anywhere I deem fit.

The first two shades are a bronze brown and a full on yellow toned gold. These are the first two shades I picked up and since I liked them, I went back for more. The bronze shade is the one I use the most out of these. I find it the most versatile color and I love smudging this along my upper lash line, as a tightline or on my bottom lash line.

When I went back in for round two I picked up two cooler toned shades: the silver and a khaki green. The green has subtle silver green flecks in it and the silver is almost glittery. I love the silver for brightening up my inner corner. All shades have a hint of shine to them and definitely fall in the metallic range.

And that metallic finish is clearly visible in the swatch. The texture of these pencils is amazing. They glide on effortlessly, pack a punch of color and settle and stay in place all day. These swatches are one swipe across my arm. They are quick and easy to use and you can blend them out, but you do have to work quickly. Of course I used these pencils in eye looks as well.

For this first look, I smudged some of the brown Hazel the Hoff along my upper lash line, as well as my waterline. I also wedged the pencil between my lids to make sure the effect was fully there. I used the gold in my inner corner. I then used my two NARS eyeshadow duos to create the rest of the look.

For the second look I used a slightly different approach. First I created the eyelook using shadows from a discontinued Catrice quad I have which is called Yellow Submagreen. I then smudged some of the green liner along my upper and lower lashline and smudged it out using a similar color of eyeshadow. I left my inner corner bare and used the silver liner to highlight.

There you have it: one of the best products Catrice has released in recent times. At least that’s my opinion. I find myself reaching for especially Hazel the Hoff on an almost daily basis and prefer it over my Urban Decay Glide-On Eyeliner Pencils which I used to swear by.
