Dior Backstage Blush Stick review

For a while now I have been wanting to do a video where I talk about purple blush shades. I just felt I hadn’t tried enough yet, so I hadn’t been able to do this video just yet. But then Dior released their new Backstage Rosy Glow blush sticks and I knew when I saw the shade Pink Lilac: I have to try that. Will this be purple enough? Let’s find out in this review!

The Dior Backstage Rosy Glow blush stick is available in seven shades. This was released together with the reformulated powder blushes of the same name that now come in the same shades. I went into store to give this a swatch, because I already own the rosy glow blush in the powder format. So I wanted to see what the difference would be and decided this might be worth a shot. This review is for Pink Lilac which is one of the newer shades in this blush range.

Review: Dior Backstage Rosy Glow Blush Stick Pink Lilac

This being a Dior product we already know one thing for sure: this thing is pricey. Luckily I had a gift voucher and there was another discount going on at the time, so I was able to get this for a little bit less. At €50 it definitely is a pricey product and if it is worth it will depend on a lot of variables: what you like, your budget and how much you like cream blush. This comes with 6 grams of product which is quite standard for a blush.

What does this blush have to offer?

First up there is the packaging. If Dior gets something right it is the look and feel of a product. It looks like a large lipstick bullet like their Dior Addict lipsticks: the blush easily slides in and out of the tube and with a satisfying click is held into place. The packaging can get messy though: the lid is clear so any smudging will be visible. The product itself is promoted as Dior’s first blush stick with a hydrating formula and it is recommended to use this together with the corresponding powder blush shade.

What does this look like in a swatch?

This blush stick has a very thin, creamy formula. It indeed feels hydrating, but it is its thin formula that lets this down ever so slightly. Don’t get me wrong: this is beautiful, but when you sheer this out it is almost too easy to blend and it can disappear onto the skin. Especially this shade, Pink Lilac, I would not recommend for anyone deeper than my skin tone as it will just look grey. You also need to apply it quite full on (which I didn’t do in the images below as it was my first time using it) in order for the color to truly show up.

What does this look like on the cheeks?

While I think this is a beautiful blush I had to go through a learning curve with this one. I initially used too little as you can see here. You can see I have blush on, but especially after doing my eyeshadow which was quite a bold look, I felt this just disappeared on me. However, if I apply it straight from the stick and go in with sheer layers this looks really great on. But a purple blush? It isn’t really. It has more of a pinky tone once on my cheeks.

Should you buy the Dior Blush Stick?

I think this Dior Blush Stick is an excellent product. But this is pricey for what you get. With 6 grams of product and the fact you need to apply two layers for this to show up due to the super blendable and hydrating formula, means you will run out of this quickly with daily use. The shade is different enough in my collection, but I wouldn’t call this a purple look. It’s more like a blue pink. Great if you have a cool undertone and fair skin. A disaster if your skin is any deeper than mine.

Pros:

  • Easy to blend
  • Hydrating, longlasting formula
  • Pretty, subtle shade

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Shade needs several layers to really pop
  • Not suited for deep skin in this shade
