Back to work

Yup today is the day! After 5 weeks of absolutely nothing I will be going back to work. In a way I’m so ready to get back and in another way I am totally not into it. Why? Read on!

First of all the reasons why I’m excited to get back to work. The number one reason for wanting to go back to work is because I love my job. It’s great getting back into the swing of things: teaching, developing course materials and being around students. I will be teaching a few (to me) completely new classes this year and I will also be developing a course pretty much from scratch. I love doing those things so I’m definitely excited about that.

Secondly, the entire building was given a complete rework over the summer vacation. This not only means that I will be getting a new office, but the entire layout has been reworked. I’m no longer up on the second floor, but on the ground floor, right by my classrooms. Handy and easy! I’ve already seen some pictures and it’s looking very nice. It’s more spacious and more importantly we now have a teacher meeting/ breakroom that leads into one of the patios so you can have lunch while sitting outside. That’s a big plus!

Now for the thing I am not too excited about. Moving to a new office, also means getting new colleagues (yet again) with whom I’m sharing my office. I don’t mind meeting new people, but I’ll be sharing an office with 7 (!!!) other people. Granted most people don’t work full time, so not everyone will be there all the time, but still… For a I-need-my-personal-space-or-else-I’ll-go-crazy person like me, this just sounds like living hell. I’m very very curious to see how that will go.

Q: When are you going back to school/ work and are you excited?

  1. I got back to work 2 weeks ago. I was excited because of all the customers I get to meet and work with. I work in real estate and for most people buying a new home (or selling) is one of the biggest things in their lives. Most customers are happy and satisfied…..
We also sell forrests, holiday cottages, industrial buildings, apartment buildings and big farms and because we also arrange all the legal papers when it comes to purchasing property my job comes with a lot of admin work aswell…and accounting…but that makes my job so diverse 🙂 I do not have any colleagues except for my boss so I am my own HR-manager, IT-manager, accountant etc 😉 Luckily we get along great and of course it would be fun to have more people in my office but on the other hand I do not have to take into account other peoples feelings and can do whatever I want whenever I want…and have off whenever I want :). I like my freedom and flexibility:) (Which surely is great when having a 2-year old in day care) I meet customers every day anyway so I do get my daily dose of interaction 🙂
I am so happy that I love my job because it would be a pain in the ass to wake up every morning thinking ‘Damn I have to drag my ass to my shitty job’ so good for you that you are excited about your job aswell 🙂 Have fun!

  2. Getting back to work was no problem for me, since I really like that, (as long as I don’t have to work in the casino too often cuz that is boring!) but I really don’t look forward to going back to school… I’ll live but I am scared I’ll get stressed out again (although I got a bit better in saying stop and allowing myself to think of something else while I’m not working on schoolstuff 🙂 so that’s good!)

  3. Today was a good day! A little hectic, but it was good. I have everything set up. Tomorrow will be filled with meetings though and the rest of the week is rather busy too. But next week I have no appointments just yet, so I guess I’ll be able to do some uni stuff then. Oh and I got my timetable/ schedule for the first term. It’s pretty good. There are two weeks where I have to teach 22 hours in 3,5 days so that’s pretty crazy, but the rest is 16 hours or less which is very manageable.
