Boston Day 5: Get your shop on

My final day in Boston would be devoted to staying close to the hotel. I hadn’t really explored the Back Bay area yet and so I decided to head out and do just that. The weather forecast was bad: thunderstorms and rain were on the menu and once I found my way into the area I was glad I had saved this area for this day. The Back Bay area is the major shopping area of Boston.

Along Newbury Street you will find all the major shops such as Zara, H&M, American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21 and more. There is also a part of Newbury Street which is devoted to high end shops such as Chanel and Burberry. Nearby you will be able to find Prudential Center and Copley Plaza where you will find a mixture of high end and high street store.

Of course you can also do some sightseeing in the area. On Copley Square you will find the Boston Public Library, some churches and more. Back Bay is generally a nice area to walk through.

Boston Public Library

I started off walking towards Copley Square and had a browse around Boston Public Library and it is amazing. Just take a look at the pictures if you don’t believe me.

Around the square there are more buildings that look great. Most of them are churches but there is also a high end hotel around and some other pretty buildings.

Also something you’ll find on Newbury Street are plenty of places to eat, salons and coffee places. There are also several cupcake places. One of them is called Georgetown Cupcake and they do some delicious cupcakes.

And then… I shopped! One of the reasons why I opted for shopping in Boston is because sales tax is roughly 5% (opposed to nearly 15% in Toronto and nearly 10% in New York) and all purchases for necessities are tax free. Also clothing until 175 dollars is tax free. So I figured it would be cheapest to shop in Boston than anywhere else on my trip. Of course I will post about what I bought, but I will do that when I get back.
