Previews of the new Essence limited edition had me immediately interested and eager to check it out. From the overall color scheme (neutrals!) to the design of some of the products, I was curious to see what budget brand Essence would come up with for their limited fall collection. And lo and behold, I found the collection nearly untouched at my local drugstore the other day and picked up one of the eyeshadow palettes, the blush and the multicolor powder.
Essence Hello Autums Limited Edition
The three products instantly caught my eye. I guess you can see why I took home the powder: that leaf pattern is just too cute to pass up on. The eyeshadow palette has some interesting neutral color combinations. I like the greens and browns and was curious as to how this would perform. The blush wasn’t my first pick until I read ‘colour adapting blush’ on the package. The stand came with a tester and I was impressed. Let’s have a closer look at all three products. You will find swatches, as well as a full face look containing all products.
Autumn in the City multi colour powder €3.39
The design of this powder is what drew me in. The leafy pattern in different beige and brown tones with a slight shimmer to it had me hope it to be a gorgeous highlight. And it is. This powder isn’t very pigmented but rather gives off a light shimmery color. I guess you could use this powder all over your face as it is not too shimmery, but for me this would be a bit too dark. As a highlight this works perfectly for me though.
As you can see in this swatch, the color is a light brown tint. The shimmer is subtle, it is definitely not a chunky glitter, which makes this perfect as a light highlight. And I like those. I like highlight but you don’t always want too much shimmer. And that’s when this comes in perfectly.
Colour adapting blush Beauti-fall Red €2.59
I had a hard time trying to capture this blush. In the pan it looks like a white powder with a slightly pink undertone and lots of shimmer. And at first swatch this powder indeed looks white. According to the packaging this blush should change color when you apply it to your skin. Under influence of the ph of your skin, the colors should adapt to a color that is customized to your natural skin tone. Gimmick or truth?
Whatever you think of this blush, it DOES work. When I first applied this is was no more than a white shimmering swatch. Unflattering and not so interesting looking. But when applied this color indeed changes color and turns into a reddish pink color. The shimmer is not that noticeable anymore once applied, but your left with one very pretty blush color. On my cheeks, as you can see below, the color is very subtle and indeed natural looking.
Hello Autumn 02 Keep Calm and Go for a Walk eyeshadow palette €3.89
The first product that caught my eye though were the eyeshadow palette. There is one more in the collection, but this one, with the beiges, brown and greens really caught my eye. There was no tester so I bought it hoping this would be as good as some of the swatches I saw from the other palette.
The palette consists of 6 shadows. The first two are perfect basic lid or highlight shades. The third color is a very pretty golden brown. The latter three shades are two mossy green shades and a dark green that leans towards black with a golden shimmer. According to Essence, these three shades make perfect lid colors, and the darker three are great for the outer V and lower lashline.
The two green shades look alike in the pan and in the swatch, but once applied they perform differently. The second green shade applies a bit sheerer and has a golden shimmer to it, whereas the first green shade has a satin finish and is more opaque. The brown color in here is quite possibly my favorite: the golden brown shade is perfect for fall.
The texture is ok. A bit powdery but the pigmentation is good and it doesn’t cause too much fall out. All shades are shimmery. In the two darkest shades the glitters do not translate to the eye. At first I thought that maybe the glitter in those shades might be an overspray, but that is not the case. The eyeshadows were easy to blend and color pay off on the eyes was good as well.
In the look below I used all 6 shadows and both the blush and the powder. The latter as a highlight.

All in all, I really like this new limited line by Essence. Hello Autumn has some fun products that aren’t musthaves per se but that are great products to add to your make up collection if you like neutral make up. The blush gives off a fresh flushed look, whereas the leafy pattern powder works great as both a powder and a highlight. The eyeshadow palette has some good pigmentation, easy to blend shades that are perfect for a fall proof look.
