Just a few more days until it is Christmas. And in order to hopefully give you some ideas of what to wear and do this Christmas, I today bring you 3 Christmas and party proof make up looks. They run from quick, easy and cheap, to high end and time consuming. I loved making these looks as it gave me plenty of opportunity to experiment with different make up techniques I don’t normally use. All in all, I really love the finished results, especially of the latter two.
I decided to make these three looks around three different themes: day time, night time and party time. The first look was created using only drugstore products and it is also a make up look you can slap on in about 5 minutes. Yes, it’s that easy. The second look requires some more work and patience. It features a color theme that I think is very much in line with the season: gold and cranberry red. I even went all out and created a winged liner. Finally, look number three was the most time consuming and doesn’t just feature a winged eyeliner, but a coppery glittery one at that. Please scroll down to see more pictures and to get a description of how I created these looks.
1.) Smokey on a budget (day time)
Not only is this a budget proof look, it is also super festive because of the main feature of this look: a super shimmery and metallic cream shadow by HEMA. It looks more silver in the pictures than it did in real life but trust me when I say that this is a great product if you’re aiming to make a quick and simple Christmas look. I went back and bought another one of these in a dark grey color because they are just so stunning. The only non drugstore item I used in this look is my eyeshadow base.
The technique I used is super simple. I used a bit of dark grey eyeliner which I applied along my lash line. Then I blended it out all the way into my crease. I tried to intensify the color along my lashline and then blur it out towards the edges and I did it several times to build up the color. I left my inner corner bare so that the look is a bit darker on the outer edge than in the inner corner. To add a pop of color I used a purple liner which I smoked out with some purple eyeshadow along the lower lashline. I finished off the look with a healthy pinky red cheek, a red shimmer lip color and a bit of shimmery black eyeshadow as eyeliner along my top lashes.

2.) High end cranberry & gold (night time)
This second look is the first out of three that I felt bad about taking off when it became time to go to bed that night. I spent quite some time blending and putting all the colors together. But it was great that I could really take the time to do it. This is pretty much a high end look. I used colors from different palettes and brands to create a perfect blend of two of my favorite holiday shades: gold and cranberry. The inspiration for this was the Dior palette in Trafalgar I bought in September, but I wanted to intensify the golds and cranberries, so I threw in some Urban Decay and MAC for good measure.
Here’s what I did to create this look:
I started off with MAC’s Painterly paint pot as a base to ensure the colors to stick and be true to color on the eye. Then I applied a highlight on my brow bone and a true metallic gold color on the inner half of my eyelid (Urban Decay Blitz from Vice palette). I put the gold shade from Dior’s Trafalgar palette in my crease and blended it out towards my brow bone. Then I took the Dior cranberry shade onto outer half and blended it out with MAC Woodwinked. I used MAC cranberry to blend out crease and pulled it out ever so slightly to create a subtle cat eye shape. Then I went back in with the Dior gold color to blend out the crease and ensure a good blend and soft edge. I put the lightest shade from the Dior palette in my inner corner and the MAC Heritage Rouge pigment from the Object of Affection set in my outer v and lower lashline. I blended it out all the way but left the inner 1/3 of my lower lashline free to apply Urban Decay’s Blitz. For eyeliner I went with Black Gold gel eyeliner by Maybelline. I finished off the eyelook with a Dior highlighter on browbone to intensify the highlight.

3.) Copper glitter party (party time)
This final look took the most time to create, but it was well worth it. I wanted to really try and use the loose copper glitter from the MAC Objects of Affection pigment collection I showed a few weeks ago. I decided to create an otherwise simple eye, but focus on a dramatic eyeliner. When I created this look I had parties in mind. Whether you’d decided to wear this for Christmas, New Year’s or just any old party: I’m sure you’d steal the show. Again this look features mostly high end products, but there are some cheaper products in here as well.
Where the second look featured lots of eyeshadow, this look is all about the liner. So I focused on that (and my brows). I created a simple eye look using the Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita palette. I used the lightest shade all over my lid and put the reddish brown tint in my crease. Then I dabbed a bit of the super shimmery glitter shade on the middle of my eye. The darkest shade in the palette went onto my lower lashline. Then I used MAC’s Dip Down fluidline to create a winged liner. I went over it with another fluidline in Copperthorn. Then I dipped my brush in some false eyelash glue and dabbed it over the winged liner. I waited for it to get tacky and then pushed the loose glitter Reigning Riches from the MAC Objects of Affection Holiday collection onto the glue. I finished off this eyelook with some tightlining of the upper and lower lashline, a bit of Mary-Lou Minizer highlighter in my inner corner and tons of mascara.

[…] I have taken to not only wearing this on my cheeks, but I have applied it to many other parts of my face. The bridge of my nose, my cupid’s bow, brow bone and inner corner are all places where this highlight can work its magic quite wonderfully. To show you the effect of the highlight, you can see the pictures above, but I am also wearing it in these looks: look one, look two, look three. […]

[…] The base I probably use the most of these, is MAC’s Painterly paintpot. Some people swear by Soft Ochre, but that is rather yellow toned for me. The pinky toned Painterly much better suits my skin tone and I use this whenever I wish to cancel out the color of my eye lids before I apply shadows. I find this creates the smoothest, most even canvas to work with. It’s pretty much like concealer for your eyes, but minus the potential creasing. I go through phases where I use this, but I generally use it when I want to ace a make up look, like my 2014 Christmas make up looks. […]
